Found some nice seats - full of glass :(

I found some nice 91 Integra seats, and I think I want to go back and get them from the junkyard cuz they are a pretty good deal and in pretty good shape.

However, they are full of shattered glass cuz the vehicle is totally wrecked.....Anyone have any idea how to make sure I get all the glass out? I don't want chards of glass in my ass :mad:

Use a nice strong vaccum with the attachment that has the brush on the end. The brush will help loosen any glass that has become stuck in the material of the seat. Good Luck

wear some saftey glasses too

use your hands to wipe out all the glass then vacuum:hehe:

i'd vacuum...wash...vacuum then vacuum again to make sure....

So...I guess since they have most likely been in the rain a few times (no windows ;)) it probably won't hurt to wash them with water and soap will it? :D

I already cut myself just investigating them last week...I didn't have gloves and was still picking glass out that evening :(

Thanks for the recommendations dudes...I might go get them tomorrow...if I pull them, $70/pair :cool: - they should have a good layer of snow on them since we got about 6" last night:bloated:

You might also want to try using one of those sticky lint rollers on them, or duct tape will do the same trick... It's too bad that glass isn't magnetic.

Did the 91 integras have auto seatbelts? Cause if they didnt, have fun swapping that huge ass collector over.

to wash i recommend taking the covers OFF unless u feel like sitting in wet seats for awhile. unless they are vinyl. if they are vinyl then wash them with soap and water, cloth, take the covers off, wash by hand, make sure there 100% dry, then put back on. then goto an upholstry shop and get some hogrings off them and use pliers to put them on exactly how u took them off, make sure u remember how everything went, (ie. make sure u see where metal rods went and put them back like that) its fairly easy, i worked at an interior shop for awhile and thats all i did was pull seats apart and put them together when i was there basically. (record is 4 apart 4 together in 3 hours!) that includes taking the seats completely apart

So I went to the junkyard at 1:30 and was done by 1:55 - when they closed at 2:00 ;) - the seats are in great shape, except for a little surface rust on the exposed springs/metal under the seat from the elements. I think with a little cleaner/oil and a good wipe down those will be good and smooth as new.

The '91 Integra has the exact same setup as our 90-91 sedans...which is one reason I wanted to get these..they have the adjustable lumbar in the driver's side too, and nice bolsters...Using a measuring tape before I took them out, it looks like the rail/bolt locations are close to the Civic but not exact, so I'll probably have to move over at least one of my original rails to get them to bolt in. There is a guy over here in PA that put some Integra seats in his 88 sedan..but I don't remember exactly what year...I think he only had to re-drill a hole or two in the Integra rails to line them up into his car.

Thanks for the tips..leather work gloves and safety glasses were key ;) The seats are in the garage, flanking the ZC on the stand...just waiting for good weather (or another empty garage) to get put in :cool: They will need some cleaning and stuff...I'll probably need to remove all the plastic covers, etc.. to get all the little pieces of glass out of the mechanicals and stuff :( - but that is gonna be cake - later!
