Which Exhaust System should I get

I have I 1997 Dodge Avenger (4clys model) I was wondering which ehaust system I should get for my car?

If you want sound out of your car the you may as well just put a cherry bomb on your car because if you put a high performance muffler on it then you won't get much sound because it's only a 4 clyinder.

I wouldn't put a cherry bomb on a 4 cylinder. They will not provide enough backpressure for it. alomost any muffler should fit. What i would do is, measure how long your muffler is and find out what the inlet and outlet size is. Also check if it is offset or center inlet. Same with the outlet. You can go to advanced auto parts and pick up a dynomax super turbo muffler and a 3.5 or 4inch tip. I'm sure it will more satisfy your needs.:smile: If you are wondering the best way to install it, just take it to a local muffler shop. If the muffler fits up well, then i don't see it costing over $60 for installation. Or you could do it yourself if you have the right tools to do it.

The stock cat gives plenty of backpressure. You could run straightpipe after the cat and have enough backpressure.

Well, if he goes with the Dynomax muffler or ANY kind of performance muffler, he will get a sound he probably won't like because he has a 4cylender. Tell me PWMAN, what muffler should he get that won't make him sound like a ricer? LEAVE IT STOCK RIGHT????? thats what i thought. THE term "ricer" don't come from a freaking exhaust tip or type of muffler. So i think he should go with 4in. tip. :wink: Zero260yes, it will deepen your exhaust tone out so you don't have a angry bumble bee sound plus it will look great..:sunglasse tust me on this on, i have been around many kinds of cars and done exhaust work on hundreds of cars. with a apc intimidator round angle-cut 2.5 inlet and 4in outlet. 8 inches long. You can find this tip and muffler at a near by advanced autoparts store.

Tust me, a 4 cylender sounds alot different than a 6. You PWMAN, might not think so, but the majority of the members here on af would be able to tell a 4cylender than a 6.

Backpressure is what makes the 4cylender engines make HP, it don't matter that much to V-6 or V-8's. The point across this is, the Stock Cat give hardly any back pressure. Even if it were pluged, it is only going to hurt the 4cylender's HP.

Free flowing cats were designed for the bigger engines like v-6 and v-8's. They wont mean shit if you put one on a 4 banger.

Lets see what PWMAN does when get works with exhaust. Hmmm, he reads the back of the box. reads the cfm flow charts. Aww, i see this muffler flows more than flowmasters or magaflows...OK i'll GeT it. PWMAN, if you only had a way of checking the air flow through mufflers and be able to do backpressure tests you would know.....

The more HP you have the less backpressure you need. SIMPLE

It's only 5 more CFM, but still it's more.

I drive a turbocharged 4 cylinder and a V8 truck, so yes I look at the flow chart and thats how I determine how to get MY mufflers. Neither of them need backpressure.

huh? i said that 4 cylenders need more back pressure from the start. And then i said that the more HP you have, the less back pressure. Thats why you see nascar and race cars with no mufflers and performance headers. I'm not trying to say that if a 4 cylender has 300HP, it don't need a muffler or anything. I'm trying to stay in the stock range here. I was trying to say that a stock 1.8, or 2.0 4cyclender need more backpressure than a stock 3.8 or 5.0 something. Thats all.

I have Apex-i Exhaust on my 96 Avenger i like it a lot the only prob is that is i really loud so if you dont want loud dont get it. It has a 4 inch tip with a 2.5 inlet Price is around 200 so if you dont want to spend that much then nevermind but think about this you get what you pay for.

get a flowmaster 40series with 2.5" custom mandrelbent catback from midas... thats all u need.... dont touch the cats unless u have a V6

dont listen to ne of these dick heads get a Brulen muffler for it the illegal one the huge chrome one i had that on my avenger i set car alarms starting my car and i have had a 4 and a 6 sounds better one a 6 but its gr8 nun the less and the only problem is ordering it and bringing it here from germany is 700 bux but it sounds and looks gr8

has anyone ever tried putting Flowmaster 40 series or Ravin Z33s on these cars? would that sound right? I have a 2.5 v6, and I think im going to go with the Flowmaster 40s.
