Am I the only one sick of reading posts about the following?
-I'm going to a build a model. Heres what i'm getting. Pics below.
-I did XXXX to my model, what do you guys think? BTW no pics.
-Should i get this model? Should i paint it this color?
IMO it's a total waste of space! We're lucky we don't have to pay for subscription to this wonderful board yet we have people that treat is as there own personal ranting ground.
I love seeing what people are working on, final pics of their work and even discussions about technique etc. , but hereing the same old crap from people (especially newbies) is freaking boring.
YOU want a model, YOU GET IT.
You want us to judge your work, well POST SOME PICS.

This forum is only as good as you guys make it. If it sucks, it's your (note: collective) fault! Do something to make it better.
Pics > no pics. (:o)

Yeah I agree. The only reason why I posted up abuot my HLJ order was that people were curious about it in the beginning. Also to show that nothing went wrong with my order when I guess people have been having a few problems with them shipping the wrong stuff.
I'm actually having trouble picking out a color because I just want more than blue cars lol But I do know there is a search function on this board and many search engines where I can find pics of the car I want to make and find out which look the best.
I do agree, having no pics is really worthless especially when talking about modeling. Even if it is a technique its a lot easier to show with pictures.
I also think some members here are trying to gain some of the more experience modelers respect, but in the end are just making it worse and flooding up the board. Also wouldn't you want to suprise the board on how it looks so you get more replies and also if you describe it too well and it doesn't come out aswell they will be expecting it to look a lot better.
As I do have a 2 big projects that i will be doing even though they will be my 3 and 4th model, but I will be taking my time with them so they come out right. I'm not posting them till I have started them to show progress... So look forward to seeing them in the next few weeks!
**Sorry for the rant, I just had to let this go and since I actually have the free time to type all of this!**

Well i know what u mean. sometimes i get excited and will post a picture of what i got from HLJ or whatever. I mean it's fine if u want to give praise and let people know that XXXX company is trustworthy or have speedy deliverys etc..
Opinions are good, that is when they're kept ON TOPIC. I don't really see the point in asking someone if I should get this or get that. In the end, what really counts is which you like the most. Or is everyone gone mad and buying kits because they're technically superior to other kits?
I think maybe there should be a better way of getting the rules clarified to newbies .. maybe a test? hehe, that would make them read it.

Gives Lownslow a clap, well at least someone knows what it is like when you don't have a digital camera. djmr2, if you have a creative enough mind you should be able to think of what people say when trying to describe their model in words, so what if they have no pics, you can't give them crap for it. Maybe they don't want a digital camera, maybe they can't afford it.
Personal ranting grounds? You just ranted about the obvious of what is happening on the board at the moment. Hell maybe some of us are too busy to post pics, maybe others post pics of their order so that people can look forward to what models that person will be building, even if they have no pics.
To the newbie fact, hell we were all newbies and we would of done the same thing, you always do when your new to a place on the internet, because you need info. If the FAQ don't have it you have all rights to ask about something in a thread. If it is in the FAQ but they ask about it anyway, don't whine and bitch to them about not reading the FAQ, tell them the answer is in there, case closed.
God damn it who cares! You mustn't be very supportive of the person building the kits with no pictures if you complain about not being able to see it. Use your imagination, be creative in thinking what it will look like, thats half of modelling anyway, those two words.

This forum is only as good as you guys want to make it. I've said it before, no one forces you to come here or read the posts.
I get really pissed off with people that want to moan about the site....were you all not a newbie once and posted the same stuff.
We have a whole bunch of new people coming here which only goes to show how popular it has become.
One thing i'd like to see better is the thread title. Make it clear so people know what it is about before you open it.
Posting a thread called Has anybody got........ is a waste of time. Dont waste peoples time opening it up....IMO. Ask what you want...that way people see the thread, they know it has nothing to do with them and they can move on.
Another idea i've been think about is maybe breaking the threads down into different section. Have a look at the G20 FORUM (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=201) . We broke this into different sections when it started to get to big.
If we do it(which i'd have to talk about with Jay) we need to find out what sections we would need.
Example......
Intro for newbies
Painting/priming
Progress pics
Finished pics

yes, as we are all so creative, we will all imagine the same thing, when in REALITY we will not. Get real. Who really wants to read a forum where u have to imagine everything that everyone else is doing.
How do u expect people to respond to things like that? WOW YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB (but thats only what i imagined you did)...
all your arguments are WHAT IF this.. WHAT IF that... do you have any solid arguments?
I am supportive of people that ACTUALLY build model kits, not people that say they're going to do this and that, going to get this and that, or asking questions such as do you think it's cool if i did this.
If you want someone to support your work, GIVE them something to SUPPORT.

I think everyone is taking this board for granted and are posting nonsense. Do you remember when you'd get busy servers everytime you'd try to get to this board? We should appreciate the fact that Igor has paid big bucks to get us on a nice server without us having to pay a subscription fee. Some of the more popular forums are charging subscriptions now. Wouldn't you rather save that money to buy a new kit? I know I do.

i don't think there's anything meaninful as to what your trying to say, especially in personal attacks. The point of this thread is to really point out that there is so much junk on this forum, it's making it boring, as well it's a waste of space. It's not me that has turned it into lame thread, but it's with replies like yours. I don't think i'm the one thats taking this as emotionally as some others do.

Only thing in here that is annoying to me is the people who post the "Does someone make a" threads, they piss me off because being on a 56k I don't want to waste my damn time opening something only to find it pointless & boring & as something that doesn't concern or interest me.

I'm not going to say any more because 1) This is pointless anyway, all its doing is causing arguments and 2) I got better things to do. Mr Mario got it right with what he just said.
You want to stress about not being able to see some pictures of other peoples models then you go along and do that.

You just summarized the points i am arguging. Meaningless and Pointless threads is whats going to cause this board to shut down eventually or at least turn into some sort of subscription board. Maybe u don't realize it, but not everyone has the money to give away to every website they visit.

I said already that i do support people that make MODELS, not pointless saying they're going to do this and that with no progress. You should have actually read what i wrote.

i think your not going to discuss like civilized people discuss things, is because really, you've got no convincing arguments.

Some ppl get pissed off way to easily.
I've kept coming back to this forum because people here are mature, supportive and very friendly. Since I've arrived though I've seen it grow very rapidly. I don't want to see this place turn into one of those forums where you're scared to write anything or else you'll offend someone then everyone jumps all over you and gangbeats you. That tends to happen a lot in the automotive community. If someone starts a thread they are usually doing it for a reason, maybe its not an important reason to you, but it might be to someone else. True this forum moves quickly, different categories would probably help a lot, but its free and a great place so there's no need to complain about it.

Wow! That post scared me off allright! I am afraid that I am a newbie and it's pretty hard for us to know what has been posted already a few months or even years ago, so if what I have been posting bores you or even offends you in any way, then I would like to apologize and I will make sure not to post so many stuff anymore...
I think that the admins are doing a pretty good job giving us newbies hints here and there as to when something has been posted already (like they did for instance with the thread I started about "what car do you drive") and moving them into the right place.

I haven't been on the board for all that long - but I can see a severe change in it. When I first started reading AF - everybody was friendly and helpful...a real community. But, lately...all I can say - the board has changed the flames and opinions taking on a whole new twist.
Now I sometimes hestitate asking q's in fear of being shutdown or being told to use the search button - I can tell you this much - sometimes when you search either your specific question hasn't been answered or the answers are too varied or sometimes just too old (ie, maybe someone's doing something better now).
Anyways, I certainly hope AF goes back to normal...ie, like it was before.
Just my 2c.

this forum has been very supportive (for the most part) to newbies and their questions. however, there may be some merit to what you all of you said on this topic but there may be some benefit to looking at the 'offending' thread. if the post is of a kit that you may be wanting to build, a review of a kit may be just a request away. even if you are not interested in the kit, the fact that there is a post on it allows you the benefit of knowing of the kits' existance for future reference.
my belief is that this forum is just a medium for modelers to share their work and their experiences/knowledge gained from their projects. i'm sure many of you remember when you first asked an experienced modeler a 'how to' question and may ever remember more fondly of the enthusiasm given with answer. this forum recreates this experience for me and i'm sure for countless others. please don't take the pleasure and enthusiasm from new modelers to learn from the experienced ones. remember, just because a person is new to this forum does not necessarily mean they are new to the hobby. you may be surprised at the creative and innovative tools and techniques utilized by 'newbies' to accomplish old and mundane tasks or scratchbuilding 'store bought' items. an open mind allows for more growth than a narrow one.
and lastly, one man's 'junk' is another's coveted. please be kind :flash:

 Here we go again, with this type of thread. I know I dont post much and for this very reason that im almost afraid to have an opinion on this board.
djmr2 - Your basic arguement is that you hate people putting up worthless threads that hold no benefit or use to the board. You have just done the same thing and to back up my claim, only last week or earlier this week someone else started a similiar thread with gripes in it.
To a few of your points more especially the one about pics. I have posted questions here without pics for two reasons
a) I normally post when I am in work, I cant transfer files onto my work PC so I cant attch any pics along with the post. And I'm sure there are lots of people in here that are in the same position.
b) I dont have a Digi Cam of my own, I cant afford one cause myself and my fiance are buying a house which i believe is a heck of a lot more important.
Your gripe about newbies, we were all newbies at one stage and without getting all deep and philosophical we are all still newbies, there will always be someone who knows more then "yourself", so how do you get that info, YOU ASK QUESTIONS. Its the only way u learn, even if its just asking for someones opinion on a color for a particular car.
PMan - In the other similiar thread to this I made a suggestion about forcing the newbies to read the FAQ, not sure if you read my post or took the idea on board if you didnt then PM me and I will run it by u again.
The idea of splitting the threads down into categories is a great idea at least then threads can be moved if they need too.
Also asking for people to make thread titles clearer, I agree whole heartedly. This happens on every board regardless of the subject matter. To the guys who do say "how do I......"(or similiar), Why do u insist on doing this, if you finish the sentence in the title more people will be interested in reading or replying to your post. Put it to u this way, when u ask a person face to face a question, do u stop have way through the seeê>Œ—…£û??? I dont think so.
WOW ok deep breath, like I said Pman I had an Idea about the FAQ PM if you want a little more detail.

Am I the only one sick of reading posts about the following?
-I'm going to a build a model. Heres what i'm getting. Pics below.
No problem with that. I'm interested in what other people are interested. If the content of the kit is shown (better pic than Hobby Search, that is), that'd be better.
If someone posts a pic of the box and one line, saying that's he got, we can ask for photos of the tree. Our reply can direct a somewhat boring thread to a meaningful one.
-I did XXXX to my model, what do you guys think? BTW no pics.
First part, yes. I think in progress thread is still on topic, but for the 2nd part, we need pics. Again, the people who reply to the thread can change.
-Should i get this model? Should i paint it this color?
1st part, it depends. A lot of Fujimi box fools you, and anyone who's buying recent Fujimi kits, should ask this before buying. But if it's not a question about the content of the kit, probably not.
"What color I should use?" yeah, that's really boring and meaningless thread. But, even I want to ask people what color I should use for the Evo VIII, so I don't know...:) Building so many kits at the same time, sometimes I run out of ideas.
I understand your frustration, but if you stay in a group like this for long enough, you'll see the same question over and over, and that's probably the nature of an online message board.
Even if a thread is started in a boring manner, those who reply to it can make it more interesting by asking a model related counter question, or giving more model related information to continue a meaningful discussion.
One thing that bothers me is a thread title, which is nothing to do with the content and difficult to guess.

Hi everybody, I think we should be a little more supportive of one another. and pay attention to our spelling!!! If somebody has a question, then they should think about the most clear way to ask it; if somebody else has an answer for that question, then a clear answer should be provided. If you don't have an answer for that question, then don't say anything at all! If you just posted a question, give people time to respond!! Go work on a model for a while or do some research on another model while waiting for a response! Sometimes our negative opinions appear as sounding like attacks on others; this is unnecessary!! Murco no longer comes here due to somebody's lack of communication and unneeded comments! If you have a question for a certain person,PM that person!!! Don't post useless threads when you only want ! person to respond!!! I come here because I appreciate the comraderie with great builders from all over the world! We should not try to come down hard on anybody because we're tired of hearing the same question over and over; if you don't want to help then don't but don't flame anybody!!! None of us are perfect human beings so we need to be tolerant of one another and our respective shortcomings! I will continue to come here because I feel like I belong here; If you feel you no longer want to come here, do what you feel you need to do but I honestly feel AF is the best place on the 'Net for car modelling and I believe it's because of the members that provide the above-mentioned comraderie! If you don't build models, go to another forum. There are a lot of forums in http://www.automotiveforums.com/
If you don't build models and have no intention of building models, maybe you should go to another forum.

Finally someone said, what i was thinking. I dont have anything against n00bs, but they seriously got to read tha faq before asking questions.

It is getting annoying sorting through all the no-interest threads lately, but the "ignore" feature and a bit of common sense should be all we need.
I don't think changing the format/breaking it down into sub-groups will help much, it will probably confuse people even more, and get certain individuals even angrier when something's posted something in the wrong place.

What i think is alot of you that don't have any clue what i'm trying to say are going totally off topic.
djmr2 - Your basic arguement is that you hate people putting up worthless threads that hold no benefit or use to the board. You have just done the same thing and to back up my claim, only last week or earlier this week someone else started a similiar thread with gripes in it.
i hardly think this thread is useless compared to the many threads being swapned about useless. This is and issue we will likely need to take up. Have you ever considered that it's a privilege that you are able to be on a forum like this? It's NOT your right. People abuse this prvilege and in the end we're going to lose it. There are people that use their own money so we can have this forum. Don't be so self centered. Your claim is irrelevant
Wow! That post scared me off allright! I am afraid that I am a newbie and it's pretty hard for us to know what has been posted already a few months or even years ago
It's not that i have a problem with newbies, it's more i'm generalizing that it's newbies that are usually posting these topics. What i'm trying to get through to you guys is that we shouldn't be cluttering up the board with meaningless posts, especially with questions about getting a particular model. Some of the other popular forums that i go to have taken more serious action towards repetative posts, useless posts, etc... do you really want to see POPUP ads? Subscription fees?
Cmon guys, do we really need questions asking if you should paint your model this color? In the end it's the color you like the most that you're going to paint it. Do you really need someone to suggest a color you don't like? I certainly don't find any inspiration for building a kit in a color i don't like.

I think what would really help is better subject threads. Also you can tell that a lot of people aren't using the search function when that can give you the best results. Before I started posting here, I read the FAQ atleast a few times and I searched for things that I wanted to find out before even posting and it saved me a lot of time, because I didnt wait to wait for people to reply. I must admit a few things I didn't find or had a question about so I posted or PMed but the ration of finding to not finding had to atleast been 10:1! I really dont' know why people don't use the search button. And don't just try one word when searching try multiple versions/variations of it because some people have different names for things. Ex. Hood is also the same at Bonnet(sp?)
I really think the only problem is the subject titles and people not looking for themselves first.
Also another idea which I was going to have on my website, is a model review section. This could help out soo many people. Each model you do, you should give it a review and if we can have a special "review section" so people will know what parts you have to watch out for and it would also cut down on people asking if they should get a certain kit because they can read the review and see if its something they want to do.
Sorry for the long post!

I agree. I still remember the very first day I login, it was not these way, but now...(newbie) They just post stupid post up asking stupid question. Never try to solve the problem themselve and hope to depend on people to do it for them, then what's the brain for? If you don't learn from mistake, how the hell you going to learn and improve your skill. I believe the older modelers solve the problem by themselve unless we did try all kind of way and still can't solve it, then maybe try to ask for help. Not found a problem you have and keep bugging people here to solve it for you. To share is good, but too depend on others decision is really not good for you. ;) :smoker2:

General Questions

I love this idea.It would make everything more organized.

djmr2 is simply stating the facts as they are; I couldn't agree more with him.
As for the digital camera situation, for my first few months on these forums I used a 35mm camera and developed the pictures at walmart, then scanned them onto my pc. Don't complain that you don't have access to a digital camera because a 35mm works fine if you learn to work around its limits (you can also ask walmart to put the pictures on cd if you don't have a scanner). If this means you'll have to wait 3 more days before you post your OH SO EXCITING progress thread, then be it so. A progress thread with pictures is, in my opinion, 400% more better than one that simply states you will be modifying this or that on whatever car.
For the newbies, you guys obviously know you are newbies. You have to take an extra effort to learn the ways of these forums and get into the flow of things. A lot of these arguments of recent have began due to newbies ignoring the given FAQ and newbie guides, and going their own way. A forum is a community, just as a local club. You wouldn't join a club at school and start blaring out your ideas and trying to work it to be how you want it. I don't know how long AF Modeling forums have been around, but when I first came I made an attempt to "lurk" for a while before posting a topic. I occassionaly posted replies in threads, mainly supporting people on their ideas and such. Is that so hard to do?
And for the single question threads, think about your question before clicking that "New Topic" button. Could it have been addressed? Perhaps a member here can give the answer in a PM? Certain question threads can be helpful when the question is innovative(e.g., it isn't usually addressed and can be helpful for all members). I'm seriously tired of browing through 10-20 crap threads when I check the forums in the morning, only to find 1 or 2 progress threads, and having maybe only 1 of them with pictures.
I probably have more to say, but that's all I can spit out right now.

i agree with most of what TheSyndicate said. there's too much garbage posts to wade through these days, and most of it can be attributed to newbies that took no effort to research the way that this forum operates before they decided to start posting and asking all these questions. i hate progress threads with no pictures, although i don't blame the camera-less person for that. and i'm sick of people trying to "put more life back into the boring forum" by making a thread asking how many paints you own etc. if you're bored of this forum, then by all means, you're very free to go elsewhere. no-one's keeping you here!
i think PMan's idea would make this forum the place it was when i joined up.

I think one of the primary issues we have here are people saying that 'N00bs' are the problem. Of all the people that have posted that, I would say that 90% of them have been on these forums for 6-8 months. Sorry, but in my book, that makes you N00bs as well. Doesn't matter how many hours you spend on the forum a day, or how many times you have posted.
Your definition of N00b appears to be someone who is > a lvl 3 person. Try to understand that MAYBE some people are mature enough to have been on the Internet longer than you've been breathing. Just 'cause you're a teenager, you think you know it all.
The primary issue on these forums is a little respect, and a little thought for your fellow modeller. Rants and flames aren't acceptable. ANYWHERE. If you walk into a shop and start yelling that the prices are bad, or where's the ketchup, the owner will chuck you out. That should be the same here.
Yes, I agree that topics could be better defined. That would be great. If it's not an interesting topic, don't read it. Simple. If a book looks boring, do you read it? Nope... same here.
If someone is stuck, cool. Let them ask. That's what this is about. If they have a good idea they'd like people to know about, or think is useful, that's great too. If you finished a model, tell us about it.
But please, if you had a bad day - keep it to yourself, or take it out on your cat or something. Or smash a model you didn't build so well. Whatever, just leave it off the forums. It's not nice.
Oh, and stop saying P-Man builds great models. I'm sick of it. He shouldn't be allowed to post pictures of his models... :silly2:

Wasn't asking, simply stating that this thread should become a sticky or something; that way it'd reach a larger audience and everyone would understand why the forums are becoming the way they are.

Just my 2c.
I agree, and the main reason i came to this board was because everyone gave amazlying friendly responses, as if i've known them all my life.

Just repeating this in case you didn't read it
Murco no longer comes here due to somebody's lack of communication and unneeded comments!
 To that person I say this :finger4:. Because you can't work out how to communicate we lost a very very good modeller because of you. Again,:finger4:. I wasn't aware that Murco left untill I saw what Antonio mentioned.
