how does a wrx motor wrk?

hey i was jus intrested in knowing how a wrx mtor wrks?
i noe its a horozantly opposed 4clyd n turbo? but when i think about it it doesnt make sence?:confused:
maybe a cross section of the motor will help,:confused:

any info will be nice, thanks

Think of it as a V4 with 180 degree piston banks. The porsche engines have used it since ever.

Good explanation....wrong angle. It would be a 180 degree V.

I'm sorry i was not paying attention of course you are right 90 degree does not make the piston oposite 180 does. thanks for catching my mistake.


Also i would like to add ther are 4 types of piston positions:

1. Inline
2. V
3. Boxter
4. Star - used in old propeller engines. (think 1930's or around that area)

so basically its a flatened v-4 engine i think i ggot it noe thatnks 2 da crosssectoin thanks jay@af:D
one thing still confuses me where is the intake port and the exaust port?
im thinking the exaust port is near the pistons but i cannot see the intake port! is it shown in this pic?

im not too confident on the wrx engines but depending on how many valves it has there might be 2 more underneath the 2 valves showing.

Intake ports are shown, I believe. Two camshafts per head.

DOHC, 4 valves/cylinder.

Yeah, you got it about right. It's hard to see ni the pic unless you realize the intake ports are all cut in half. You can see all 4 valves best on the top left cylinder. The top two valves are intakes, coming from the intercooler that would normally be above the motor, and the bottom two are exhaust.

I think you are referring to the 'radial' position which has any odd number of cylinders in a circular arrnaged. But I think it was Ford that at one point was experimenting with an 'X' shape but oil lubircation problems ended that project.

Aircraft engineers have also com up with all sorts of cylinder combination, such a two stacked Flat 12's, massive 56 cylinders radials as well as your basic V-18 Focke Wolfe FW-190 powerplant.

Don't forget the 'W' combo either! :D
