Sqeaking New Brakes and Whistling CAI, How do I fix?

Title explains it pretty much, I got new EBC Rotors/Pads about 3 weeks/500 miles ago, and just recently they started to squeak, and since i no nothing about brakes (except how to install them now) I dont know how to stop the squeaking. Also, my AEM CAI starts whistlin at like 3k rpm, never did it in my old car, does the whistlin mean its not gettin enough air or wat? All info greatly appreciated, thanx.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I have a really bad whistle that I thought was my intake. It happens when I accelerate and goes from about 2k to 4k. While I was doing some work on the car I took it for a spin around the block without the CAI on and it was still whistling. I never did track it down, but you may want to see if it whistles when the intake is removed.

My friends teg CAI whistles, don't know what causes it, he just figures its the filter, or its supposed to make that sound, i keep telling him its not andhe just disagrees.

My civic whistles when i boot it too... dont think its anything serious

intakes just make the sound themseleves its nothing to worry about.

as far as the brakes, did you put the anti-squek goo on the back of the pads before you installed them? if you did, then you just got alot of brakedust between them and the rotor, due to hard braking.

Whistle noise could also be a vacumn leak...but intakes do tend to make a whistle noise too.....

:rolleyes: so you are discounting the fact that it may be something other than the intake in branman's case also?

Although it probably is nothing to worry about.

The squeaking noise means u probably have a leak somewhere in the intake. Check your adapters and check the hose thats connected to the intake.

With his set up they don't create brake dust. Anyways try using what he suggested.

try carb cleaner on the disk pads to get of the crap on em that should get rid of the squeek

The whistle form you CAI is normal. Honda went to great pains for the stock system to be quiet. That' why the resonator box and all the goofy shaping of the factory inlet.

The CAI manufacturers don't care about this. My AEM squeals like a pig too.

DO NOT SPRAY CARB CLEANER ON YOUR BRAKES!!! The safe bet is to use only brake cleaner.

EBC told me to not use goo or shims. I didn't. They don't squeal.

If you pop the pads out and scuff the surface good on a piece of sandpaper laid on a flat surface you may kill the squeal. Reassemble per EBC's instruction.

only use brake cleaner on your brakes, the other stuff could damage the friction material on the pads.


and yes you could have a vacuum leak also but he would have seen other problems as well, so i told him the sound is most likely normal.

Thanx everyone for all the help, I was really just making sure neither was serious, and it doesnt sound like it is, but Ill email AEM about the whistlin just in case. As for brakes, when i got a few hours Ill take em out and sand em, until then, ill just live with the squeaking. Here's another prob, not sure if its serious, but better safe then sorry. Occasionally, when its cold out, and i try to start my car and it turnover and starts, but once i let the key back to its regular position, the idle drops and the car turns off, it doesnt stall tho, cuz it never actually jumps or anything, just turns off (and buy off i mean just the engine, the radio and lights still work). If anyone knows wat could be causing this plz lemme know. Thanx again all.

PS This is gonna sound real dumb, but wat all is involved in a tune up besides spark plugs, wires, and changin the oil? The reason I ask is that my car hasn't had a tune up in a long while i believe, so tomorrow im gonnna buy all the stuff, cuz my car gets kinda sucky gas mileage (only 22 mpg, and thats mostly highway!) so I'm hoping a tune up helps a little. Yeh its normal. My car does that also but when i did it the second time its all good. What oil weight are you using? 5w or 10w?

tune up= plugs, wires, ditributor cap, rotor, air filter

change the dizzy cap and rotor and check ur belts hoses and air filter

Oh right don't use carb cleaner,

but it did work on mine and my brakes are fine!
