sup g20ers,
I want to add a playstation inside my car. the psx has the 110 volt plug end which can not be found anywhere in the car. What is the cheapest way I can get the 110 volt converted to perhaps the 12 volt DC plug in my g20?
thanks

Im not a g20er, but I think I can help.
I think you mean converting the 12V DC in your car to 110V AC. For this you will need to purchase a device called an inverter. This will do exactly what you want and you will be able to use the psx in the car.
Is the psx the only AC powered device in your car? If so find out how much wattage the psx uses (this will be important when shopping for an inverter, because the cost changes alot depending on how much AC wattage you need)
If you have more that just the psx needing AC power, it can become quite costly for the inverter, as well as the fact that running something like a psx on an inverter will drain your battery rather quickly.
I dont know what type of electronics stores you have in your area, but all most all electronics shops will have inverters, or will be able to tell you where you can get one
I hope I answered your question.
I know that there are other AFers out there that have done this b4, and im hoping atleast one of them can post on there experiance with running a psx in a car

Remember that this battery still has to be charged somehow, and I doubt that your alternator can keep 2 batteries charged up.
Its a good idea, but you need to figure out how you are gonna keep it charged. Are you gonna take it out every once and a while and place it on a 12V charger?
This is a good point tho. Before you go shopping for the inverter, you should already figure out if your gonna go with another battery, and if so, where you are going to put it, and how it will be maintained.

thanks for the replys. I am still uncertain on what I am going to do. I am also running an amp along with subs in the back so the battery will definately not be able to handle everything. The TV has to get powered by 12 volts only as well. I heard that there exists a small inverter that plug's into the amp, although I am not sure if that is true.
let me know,
thanks

Sorry dude...if there is such a thing out there, ive never heard of it.
And if there is such a thing, I am wondering if it will be able to supply enough wattage to run the psx, also like you stated, with running an amp with subs in the car already, there is no way you can run it all off the single battery.

I've done some researching and went out and asked people at stereo stores and automotive shops. If I purchase the inverter, it will kick some power as well. That will take care of the battery issue. and that way my PSX will use the inverters power and the battery will be fine. Tommorow I am gonna install tv. I already have the flexible mount on. The RCA Sound output will connect into 1 of the amps Sound input and that will take care of the sound as it will play through the system. The video is taken care of as the RCA output video wire comes out of the TV itself it will connect to the PSX Via video cable.
Will take pics as soon as it is in and running :) peace

a simple inverter will do the trick- i bought 2 on ebay for 20 bucks and they work great. the wattage output isn't that much but it will run the PSX. i tried running a black light once and it wasn't enough juice.
system run down:
alpine cva 1k w/ 12d disc changer
dei eq w/ 8 volt output going to
rf 240.4 running cabin speakers- 6.5 infinity fronts / 6.5 polk rears
rf 100.2 running two mtx 10''s in bandpass box
and of course- playstation.

thats all you really need is an inverter that supplies just enough power to run the psx

alright, i know this is a lttle off base, but here goes anyway. i have a lot of extra car audio equipment and i want to hook it up in my house...the only problem is that they run on 12V DC, not 110V. So, the question is how can i convert it to 12V. i've heard something about rectifiers and also something about being able to use a computer power supply.
i know this is a automotive forum, but I don't know where else to start. i just need someone to start pointing me in the right direction.
