Why are the simpsons so damn good? How is it that I somehow manage to realte the simpsons to almost everything? Why are the simpsons only on twice a night? Why dont they include the comic book guy in more episodes?

The Simpsons is slipping. :( There's a reason CBG keeps saying "Worst episode ever!"

Futurama is actually better, IMHO... :D

Even though I do have cable, the simpson's come on on air channels (i.e. you don't need cable, just rabbit ears!)

Also, I learned this a while ago about the Simpson's. They (and Law and Order) are the only shows that assume you have a high school or college education. Every other show very seriously is written to the comprehension level of a 6 yr. old. I found this out from a playwright/televsion script writer.

Ya but, some of thier jokes take a High School education to understand, Now that I watch the epsiodes over and over and over again, I get all of the jokes.

I think they're up to season 11 now. I've seen every episode up to season 9 and a few of 10. The ones I've seen are very funny. I haven't seen the newer ones so I can't comment on the decline of humor.

On level of laughs. here is a more educated oriented one:

Homer and family walk into a Japanese restaraunt. In the background is Akira, one of the sushi chefs. He picks up the phone and apparently says, "Hi" a bunch of times. Actually he says, "Hi" then "Hai" a few times and then says "Hi" again when some one walks in. then he says "good bye" and hangs up. In Japanese, the word for yes is "hai." so he is really saying. "Hello... yes... yes... yes... hello.. yes... yes... goodbye." but it sounds like, "hi... hi.. hi... hi... hi..." If you know Japanese this little background joke is quite funny.

i thought the first couple seasons really sucked, i hate the old simpsons (with the different voices and the bad animation) the middle ones are the best, the new ones just seem like they're running out of ideas.... but still good! :D

the show its great ive been watching it even before i moved to the US. it pisses me off that i dont get to whatch the new episodes, the simpsons its the only show that has made me cry, catch a stomach cramp and fall of my couch just from laughing:p

Ahhhh, finally a subject I can relate too:D

Between Al Bundy, and Homer Simpson, you cover almost every married man in America (and probably elswhere). If you are married, have children, both shows are a must! It's the only way to keep your sanity daily.

I love the guests on the Simpsons. Aerosmith, Bette Midler, Johnny Carson, President Ford, etc... The antimation of these big figure people is enough to give you stomach cramps.

Yeah, some shows aren't near the 10 rating, but it beats watching the 5 o'clock news.

Fox has a great lineup right now

5 pm Married With Children
5:30 Simpsons
6 King Of The Hill
6:30 Simpsons

nothing like having good shows to wipe away the weight of the day.

Why are they great? Because they're funny on so many freakin levels!! You find yourself talking and referencing episodes with your friends. Like Seinfeld, there topics are just so relatable; and the scenarios are hilarious; and the lines are just so quotable!!

"Tomaaaacooo!"
"I demand satisfaction!"

FYI, they're on season 13.

Family Guy, great show!! Maybe funnier because everybody is just plain stupider than the Simpsons. They should have put it on at a better time. Take out King of the Hill.

Futurama, it's getting ALOT better. First season sucked, of course. WTF?! A Simpsons without a Homer? Just not the same. But now they're like really funny episodes.

thefamily guy has new episodes now. the last one chris points out a criminal and then they go under witness proctection in the south and they all become red necks. the dad and the dog (forgot the names) act like dukes of hazzard and chris gets a g/f its pretty funny. :D

The Family guy is freakin bloody hilarious. Too bad I can never watch it.

Hey Jay, I also bought that Simpsons DVD too. I plan to get all their seasons, when they release em. The first season pretty much sucked cuz everything was new and they hadn't quite gotten their feel yet. Like Smithers was black! Barney was blonde! And the motion and lip synching was terrible. Also, Homer's voice must have been done by someone else, because it's just so different. I also noticed that Homer was smarter back then.

gang$tarr
11-17-2001, 06:28 PM
i don't like the first simpsons episodes... with the different voices and really bad animation... most of them weren't that funny either
the middle seasons are the best :D

Cavallino

Family guy is good, but it cant live up to the simpsons. I think they just try to take everything from the simpsons farther. Whats nice about family guy is they are always making fun of a person, show, movie, idea. Its great. But not as good as the original.

I've re-watched about half of the first season now, and they still crack me up! They're classic! Like the "Homer's Night Out" episode, where Bart takes a picture of Homer with the belly dancer. :hehehe: The commentaries are pretty much what you guys are saying. They sit there and say "Man, what were we thinking?" and "Why didn't we fix that?" But they're still way better than the Tracy Ullman shorts.

So, I'm really enjoying the first season set; I'm glad I bought it. I always wanted to just tape them all, now DVD is 10 steps beyond that. In one episode, Homer was in the arcade, and I went through frame-by-frame to read the names of the games in the background:

*Pac-Rat
*Escape from Grandma's House
*Robert Guillaume Destroyer

I'd have never seen those on TV or on tape. :D Now I plan on buying all the seasons as they come out. :) :) :)

Yeah, some of the first episodes of the Simpsons were a little crude as far as the antimation goes.

But I still love when they're playing scrabble and Bart makes up the word Kwigibow, then give the definition of "Dumb balding North American Ape" (Homer).

MMMMMMMMMMMM BEEEEEEEEERRRR!!!
