D16Z6 Swap

Alright, I'm getting a new engine tomorrow and want to know what all I will need to do to swap it in there. I know that I need to find the wiring diagrams for DPFI to MPFI. Is there really anything else? Should just drop right in there shouldn't it, since its the same series that is coming out of my car. And what all should I go ahead and replace while I got the engine out? I know it will get an oil change, new spark plugs, my accel spark plug wires moved over, along with dizzy cap and rotor(if they will work with it), going to put my drive axles on it because they just got replaced a couple months ago. Anything else?

Yes, it will swap right in. The first thing, is to do the mpfi swap. Also, how do you plan on activating the vtec?
One other thing you may want to replace while it is out, is the timing belt.

Might want to do the clutch, if the one you have is pretty old or has been driven hard.

Does the D16Z6 have VTEC? didn't look like it did. How hard is the DPFI-MPFI swap? I found the magazine with the info on it, but confused the crap out of me. Yea probably gonna replace the timing belt, and I don't know how bad the clutch is that is coming with the engine. I am getting the Engine, Tranny and ecu. So what would be the easiest way to do the MPFI swap? the mag says to use my DPFI harness, but should i?
sorry for all the questions, but I would like to make sure I get this all right.

look for the vtec solinoid next to the distributer on the back side of the head

thats it, i was looking for it to say vtec.
Got another question. Since I am getting the ECU, would it be easier to swap ECUs(or do I HAVE to swap it)and get the wire harness with it and just swap harnesses, or just rewiring my stock one to run MPFI? I'm sort of lost at this point here, I have read the article on rewiring everything, but still confused here. And can I get the resistor box from the del-sol.

You can use a Si ecu, you just have to wire up vtec somehow. With either a switch, or some vtec controller. Or, you can wire in the z6 ecu as well, which is easy as doing the mpfi.
Also, your money order came in last night. So the exhaust should be going out by friday.

So what all would i have to do to swap the ECUs? change all the wiring? or what?

Alright I think I have figured out the MPFI conversion. What I think i have figured out is, change over ECUs, change my stock DX ECU with the ECU out of a 95 civic(sorry don't know the numbers), then add all the extra wires, resistor and all that fun stuff that the article in SCC says. Am i right here?
Another question is what all cars can i get the resistor box out of for the injectors? and also, I have been doing some searches and seen a lot of talk about OBD0-OBD1 conversions, would I have to do this to place the new ECU in there and work right? any info is helpful

the injector resistor box is in any car that uses peak and hold type injectors. 88-91 civic/CRX, 86-89 integra, i know these positively have one. check some older preludes as well they might ahve them.
As far as the conversion, it would be worth it to just buy the conversion harness many sites offer, unless you like resoldering every single wire one-by-one.
good luck with the swap and let us know how it goes.

thanks, does the 93 del sol have a resistor box? it should since it is what the engine came out of right? Yea I think im gonna just buy a harness, started reading on how to do it yourself, but got confused, so i think ill shell out the money for it.

no a del sol will not have an injector resister box. It is OBD1 which uses saturated type injectors. If you are going to convert to OBD1 and use a p28 ecu, then you do not need an injector resistor box.
OBD1 - saturated injectors no resistor box
non-OBD - peak & hold injectors w/ resistor box

alright, starting to get confused again, so if i swap ECUs and switch to OBD1, i will i still need to do the MPFI swap?

Yes.
If you are using the d16z6 intake manifold and a p28 ECU, then you will only need to wire in the injectors, no resistor box is needed. you will have to check out a haynes for the 92-95 EX/Si to get the wiring diagram.

alright, thanks for straighting(sp?) that out for me. Now I have a good question, what ECU do I have? On the ECU they wrote 95 Civic 1.6L, but I think they got it out of a 93+ Del Sol...well at least they got the engine and tranny out of it, and told me the ECU was coming out of it.

HAHAHA...thank you man. sorry for all the questions, but i won't to make sure i understand as much of this as possible

Damn, this engine is a piece so far from what I have got to. First they give me the wrong ecu, which i will get straighted out tomorrow hopefully. Then I went to take the valve cover off, and 2 of the bolts were already loose. Took the valve cover off and where the bolts went into was broke off on the side, and another was cracked. I don't know exactly what part it is, maybe someone here will know. How hard would it be to replace that, or should I just take the engine back and either get my money back(hopefully) or get a different engine. I know they got a B18A out there.
EDIT: If i were smart I would have said the cylinder head I think is where the things are broke, still don't know for sure, never took an engine apart.
