How low should I go?

I have a 2001 sonoma extended cab with the sport suspension package, I ahve heard that the springs only lower the truck 1 1/2 inches in the front, and the rear is 2 inches lower, I want to put spindles on the front and possibly put on 3 drop coils, but the question is, if I lower it 5 inches in the front will I be scraping everywhere i go and is it going to ride bad, also how bad is my handling going to be affected? I am going to take a couple leafs out in the back and get a 3 inch block with airlift on the back

well dropping that much you will definitly be scraping a lot. personally if i were going to go that low i would go with an adjustable suspension, but thats just my preference.

I'd go with a 3/4 drop if anything, looks smooth, wont be bumping like a 5in. and will ride a lot better. I dropped mine 2/3, and I wish I woulda gone for the 3/4.

I used to have airbags on my old truck (1969 chevy) it was badass but it cost me like 3000 dollars 4 years ago, I dont want to have to spend all that money again, I think I might just do a 4/5, with airbags on the rear

I dunno man, I think your truck looks pretty good and low as it is now.

I cant believe I got the sport suspension upgrade, yeah it handles great and everything, but ti turns out they only lower them 1 1/2 inches in the front and the rear kit on the back is kinda cheap, I would never buy the sport susupension again, I would just take out a couple of leafs on the back and maybe had a 2 inch block from there. The good part about the sport package is Ive got the 16 inch wheels and low profile tires

That truck today in the parking lot on a 5" was pretty cool, would have been better if the guy driving it wasnt such a dick.

How about some new wheels and tires? I'd do that before tint.

Well since rims and tires are going to be like 1500 bucks or more, I think 150 dollars for tint is a little cheaper, also why would I get rims and tires now, then have the wrong profile tires when I go to lower my truck? I also go to Pismo and do some off roading here and there and 18 inch rims wont hold up to good for that. I also am going to start pulling a trailer for my quads, and am going to add airlift to the rear. Besides my rims arent that bad, the base model rims are the ones that look like shit

Hey man, nice truck. Since you already have the sport suspension package when you drop it again you need to add an additional inch. i.e.:you go 3/4 you will be around a 4/6 or so, maybe a little lower. My friend had a '99 Lightning which from the factory is lowered 2" all around. When he installed a 4/6 drop it made it equivelant to a 6/8. Whatever you decide I'm sure it'll look good.

from the look of the pics you could probably do another 2/3 pretty eaisly... looks like youve got the much suspension left. i know 2 guys in oregon who have 5-6 drop on thier X's and they seem pretty happy with them, although one has put bags on recently i think...

If you're going to keep the GMC logo on the front of the truck, how about trying to find like a solid chrome GMC piece. I don't even know if they make them but I think that would look pretty sharp if they did. It would match the solid clear headlight lenses well

Yep, that red looks nasty i agree, birthday is on Feb 26, so Im going to get a billet grille, this will solve the problem, but you need to lay off my rims, looks like your rims are pretty stock and you got dark tint. I want 18's on my truck but I would thrash them(reason for not getting extreme, because of the ground effects) Gonna put a 2 inch spindle on the truck and put a 3 inch block on soon also, however Im trying to make my quad go faster, so I have to wait till I get money for the spindles......

hey man, i've had everything from air bags to just lowered. in my opinion 3-4 looks better but you will have a better ride with 2-3 on my truck. i wouldn't go with taking out leafs. that's dangerous if you drive over 55 and one breaks it aint pretty. for a daily driver 2-3 works best . anything lower than 3-4 gives a bumpy ride.

mine has a 2/3 drop on it and it doesnt scrape too much and i can fit pretty much any size wheels i want. but i wouldn't try towing anything with it. it handles like a champ, but you feel every grain of asphalt.
