well my whole car is in primer and all the body work is done. what a relief. i just ordered the hood and paint today. i got a ppg paint called pearl orange burst. its a tri stage paint, a little more money but its a good investment. and the performance shop next to my dads body shop finished up my charge pipes on my turbo which is finally done. i love the whistle. :D but all i have left is the alarm which is 200 bucks and then m,y dad will lay the paint. i will keep everyone updadted.

lol, c'mon now. well actually i am just painting half my car, trying to start a new fad. lol. my side skirts and door caps cover the bottom of my car so there is really no point to waste paint and clear coat. it will be dusted on under there but thats it. :)

Thats not cool, lol, ohwell. Anyways, very badass, i can see the sexy already, and apparently I havent been following very well, cuz i dont know wat kind of engine/turbo ur doing. So if someone can let me in on it i'd appreciate it. THanx, and yes, badass.

Its lookin nice! A ZC is also a great motor to turbo! I would get one...LOL wait I did get one, its in my back yard! Here $750 shiped www.Hmotorsonline.com they are good folks.
Also why dont you just fill in the "gaps" with bondo? Its cheap, and I figuered since your pops owns the bodyshop he would hook you up!

i actually like the gaps, it gives the car its body line!!

walt0023
02-04-2003, 08:57 AM
damn man, i know what bondo is. lol if you didn't see the first couple of pics i posted awhile back you would see that there is prob bout half a gallon of the shit on the along with some duraglass. but i noticed the small gap after wards and i said f*ck it, its not really noticable. plus it was already primered and sealed.

same exact thing i am doing, right now im in the process of stripping everything from the engine bay, exterior, and interior. my car is getting done up in champ white with a flat black engine bay, and its even having the same sideskirts and door caps you are doing. im using the combat front and combat2 back though, with 97 prelude tails, black housing projectors and corner lights, a CF hood, and SiR spoiler

Changing the whole color of the car, without painting everything = http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/icons/icon13.gif in my opinion. I mean, if you are stripping everything from the engine bay anyways, why not finish the job right?

you mean you dont like the idea of a flat black engine bay? the car is blue right now, and everything that is blue is getting repainted. i like the way a white car looks with a CF hood, black projectors, and a black engine bay. it makes everything under the hood stand out.

Depending on paint and quality of job the paint that COULD go on the hood COULD be enough to buy a CF SIR instead! My neaghbor accross the street has a frend when he took his moms t-bird to get fixed for $40 there was a 98 ITR gettin a $9000 paint job! Looked sick as fuck but I bet all that paint weaghed like 200 lbs! It was dark blue w/silver fleck from the back angle and dark green with gold flek from the front angle... Anyone know how the fuck they do this? I asked the guys they were realy secritive about it...

MyFirst4G
02-04-2003, 10:06 PM
its light, check the car another day when the light is hitting it at another angle and the colors will probably change!

Its not the light dude! I walked from the back of the car it was blue then to the front it was green and there were bright ass lights all over in there... Pluss I heard them saying something about using 2 diff collors and putting paint on at an angle? It sounds like they sprayed it with green @ a 45 and then blue on the other side... I just dont see how this would work because the paint would mix?

I can eplain what it looked like if you got a piece of paper and a blue and green marker... Fold the paper back and forth in 1/4" increments and mark each side... To all the ones on your left hand green and all to your right hand blue... It was sick! But it looked realy heavy... You could tell the paint was SUPER thick and dense prolly had like 20 clearcoats... OH shit! Maybe they had it painted one blue and clearcoat then added green at an angle? That would work! Also would explane why it looked so thick!

i understand what you mean, and i have a visual of how it would look, but its just mind boggoling (Spelling?:bloated: )........

Id be willing to bet that without the clearcoat the paint would look real bumpy. The clearcoat was used to smooth it out. If thats the case it would be the same effect as swade or thick carpet. Looks slighly different from oppisite angle. That would also explain why so much clearcoat was used.

02-04-2003, 10:46 PM
Yea, it had REAL depth to it... Like I said toe must have weaghed at least 200LBS!<---- The paintjob ALONE! It would be tight on an oldschool like a 63 Impalla or something that not going to be fast anyway, but on a ITR? Come on, honda's have always been about PTWR! Thats what makes them so godamn fast!

if they allow the paint to flash, and dry, the paint won't mix. There would be no need for clear in between colors, and a reasoning for so mainy clearcoats could have been they wanted more protection for the basecoat.

and the paint that my shop uses is applied completely different than what you guys were talking about spraying it at angles. First there's a flat black applied and then the color is sprayed. It's just like other paint and is sprayed the same, but it changes colors. You don't have to spray two different colors, it's all mixed together and once it is on the flat black base coat then it can change colors. Here's a pic of the stuff I painted that model car above with
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/330007Dcp_0078.jpg
Flat black, color, clear.
Same stuff we use at our shop except for it's not in a can. Check out this thread, it's explained with pics http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50652&highlight=irridescent+ITR

very expensive as well, my dads hayabusa is chamelen. that paint looks tight as hell but i would never put it on my car and as for spraying paint on angles?? i don't really see how it would make a difference from being sprayed on straight but maybe there is some trick that i don't know about.
