Modelling Reference Photos Idea!

Now I’m sure you all have the same as me loads of photos of cars which we have acquired over time, but I bet we all spend time search for the same stuff, over and over.
So and idea came to mind.
If we all burn a CD with the images we have collected and sent them to me, I could burn a DVD or a series of CD’s collaboration them all, which I would send out for only the cost price, (meaning no profit), just the cost of media and shipping.

As some of the image may be copyright works distributing for free should mean no hassle
What do you all think.

Good idea, in addition we could have a links sticky thread to where we post good sites for reference photos. Only problem I see is all the print photos many of us seem to have, scanning them all would be a pain in the arse.

The idea is sound, but the execution would be troublesome. :o Our tastes are so diverse, that anyone would only really appreciate a certain slice of any given collection. Unless one were to itemize each photo into some fairly specific categories (street Ferraris, race Ferraris, street Nissans, etc...), but then you'd have the problems of cross-classification.

And I don't have a DVD-ROM. :o

But, I only recently got a CD burner, and the first disc I made was about 1/4 full with my 100+ pics of Testarossa motors. ;)

I think the website is the better idea, that way we all get the pictures and if we sort them by category like Chopin said "Ford""Mustang""1996 GT" etc would save us all the time, and effort. Sounds like a good idea and we could make the website very basic, ie no background, no flash animations etc etc just quick access information. Also colour charts would help people trying to make life like replicas of some factory cars. Colour combos also a good idea. I vote "good"

I can do it. Access will be restricted to AF members ONLY.

Hook me up with pictures.

Sounds like a good idea... I have over 700 car pics right now on my hard drive... I beleive most are of imports, but some of exotics and muscle cars too.

i have over 600 pictures on Tokyo Auto Salon 2002 - 2003 alone and i hav about 1,200 pictures of imports, and imports only, no exotics, jus pure imports, nothing rice. most of all are JDMs pm me if u need nething

but then again, if this does work out, people will be arguing which will be their "mod" on their model. and all i can see are problems and troubles between members, so i believe its best if they go online and look for their own style so people wont be b*tching about who's copying who.

Good idea!

a couple of notes ot think about:

1) basic site within AF for AF members only
2) Standard picture size (preferably 640/480) for 56k users.
3) viewable through thumbnail, otherwise it takes to long to load
4) Categorization by brand

I will send in 1 picture per subject I have and then link to my own site. It' kinda semi commercial, so I can't give up all my resources.

keep us informed on how it'll take place.

Cheers,
Guido

I was thinking also to have a database, consisting of links to galleries that are found over the internet. But this idea is not bad either.

AS for picture size - I disagree with Guido. What's the point of small pictures? They should be as big as possible, but we need to be able to view thumbnails to decide if we want to open that particular pic.

I have a gig or two of references, and I'm sure everyone has the same, so this will require a huge amount of webspace, nothing we can get for free, I'm afraid.

Well yes, I think you're right, but like you said, it'll take a lot of resources to get them posted.

Whats the point of small pictures? The point is to make it easier for those of us who don't have a fast internet connection or who have a download limit that we cannot pass or if we do then it costs us extra money! You say you have a gigabyte or two of reference pictures, thats half my hardrive. I'm sorry if I and others don't have a computer that is as new as yours but maybe its because we don't want to spend so much on ours. Theres another point of having small pictures, "huge amount of webspace, nothing we can get for free" that says it all, if all pictures are in 640x480 or 800x600 or smaller then we can fit alot more on the website.

ales

In that case you might as well go by the instructions alone - the point of reference pics is to be able to see all the details! Good luck finding details on 640X480 pictures!

This is why i said thumbs would be essential - you won't have to download the pics you don't need.

Purpura Delujo

I meant smaller pictures would let us fit more onto the website if it is a free one like geocities or something like that that has a webspace limit. You could get 640x480 size pictures of the details. New idea: we could have two or three websites and have thumbnails of big pictures, 1024x750 or 1280xwhatever that is and assign two or more people to submit pictures to each site as each would favour one type of car more then another. That way its easier for what your looking for, as there is a site dedicated to it and there is enthusiasts of that type of car submitting the pictures. Just an idea.

and another though - we have a couple of members who have online shops and whatnot, perhaps they could store the reference libraries on their websites (just an idea! Wong? ;))

If I can be of any assistance? You can find a lot of 2002 reference photo's (F1, Le Mans, DTM, ...) here (http://users.skynet.be/sennake/reca_menu_2002.html) on my webpage, so that saves a lot of AF-webspace...

This gallery I am installing will have "user upload" function available to anyone on AF.

So you can just uploadyour own pics

I own my own webserver and pay the cable bill.

I have unlimited bandwith through my ISP for one flat monthly charge. In fact they urge me to use up as much as I can.

The gallery is already up. Just have to fine tune.

Yeah, nice photochops ;)

Can't believe your provider wants you to use up more bandwith

they want to see what they can handle so they have about 500 customers with this plan. These are the first 500 customers signed up with this cable internet service. I'm number 450 something i was told :P its weird, but works for me

So what you are saying Mentel is that you want us to send you as much as wqe can to upload on to your site? Or you want us to upload as much as we can to your site because you donn't have to pay and you are urged to use as much as you can? Works for me too!:D
