This messagea started appearing last week. I looked in the book and don't see an example of this message, all I see is a check breaks message. Does anyone know what this means?

Brake linnings refers to brake pads. Once the wear sensor starts to hit the rotor you get a message to check Brake linnings.
Make sure when the pads are changed you replace the wear sensor (about $10 each one for front and back) or you may continue to get this message since the sensor may no longer be good after rubbing the rotor.

I had the same problem and you must replace the sensors when you put on new break linings. The light will go out after that but it may take a few days to go out.

hi, the pads a re good, and so are the brake sensors on my 97 740iL the mechanic verified that they have are good. the messagestill appears. we went ahead andchanged the sesors anyways (Factory OEM) and the message still there. are you saying that it may take a few days for this to go away or should it be instant? anything else I need to look for? also there is the word 'brake' in red stays on in the dash. this is different than the emergency brake notice. any idea? are they related? thanks
