Well, was late for school this morning so I was flying to school, going about 90-100, then all of a sudden the car stopped accelerating and starting backfiring big time, and wouldn't go any more. Don't know exactly what is wrong with it, hoping its the fuel filter or something. Anyone got any ideas? would like to know ASAP gotta try and fix it tonight

Sounds like the timing belt may have jumped by the backfiring that you described. I would pull a spark plug and see if you have spark and go from there.

timing belt, or maybe rotor screw came out and the rotor fell off...check under the distributer cap..see if that loose...thats happened to me a couple times...

Three things to check.1)Dist. cap 2)Rotor 3)Ignitor. I had to replace my igntior and it was having the same problems.

I checked the spark and all 4 cyclinders where getting spark at the cap. Haven't gotten time to check the rotor, but i figured it was either that(since I just replaced it, i might not have tighten it enough), next things I was gonna check was fuel filter, figured 178k miles, might be time for a new one. Already bought it, just haven't got to install it yet.
On a positive note: I just bought a D16Z6 to put in it. Getting it wednesday, and hopefully will have it in there wednesday night or thursday. anyone know where i can get the diagrams for wiring DPFI to MPFI, i might go ahead and get it ready for the engine wednesday.

I posted the same thing about 2 weeks ago. It turned out to be the screw that holds the rotor on. The head was twisted off and the threads we're stuck in the dist. I Removed the old threads and bought a new rotor that came with a new screw, and poped it on and it started right up.

Well got her running finally, once I actually got time to work on her. It was just the rotor nut popped off, didn't tighten it down enough. Took me 2 more trys to get it on there good, then the car wouldn't start, it was either battery dead or bad connection on battery. Oh well, hopefully soon it will have a new engine.
