I want to know if people in the Uk or Japan have as many Evo's on the street as the US has them Mustangs?

I would love to give you a straight up answer on this. But i dont live in either place so can't really say. In both of these countries, the Lancers face heavy competition. In Japan, Skylines, Silvas, Supras, Imprezas and other such sport cars compete with the Lancer. In the UK, the Lancer recieves competition from German cars (which, i believe, have a lower foriegn tax) and British cars. I do know that Skylines sell rather poorly in the UK when compared to other cars in it's performance range. I'll let somebody else answer for certain. I think Lancerz lives in the UK.

The reason I asked is because I like the way you don't see as many Impreza's and a lot people aren't molesting them, for example civic's. I hope when we get the Evo's here people don't rape them.
Should I wait and buy the Sti or the Evo 7?

If you are not willing to spend a lot of money and time to mod the WRX, wait for the STi version, it will rock. I would compare it to the EVO VII, if possible.
Bear in mind that the WRX tranny can not take a heck of a lot more power without some modification. But I would wait for the STi, if the target price is realized, it will only be 5 grand more than the WRX, which is an AMAZING deal!!! Even if its 40 grand, it is still amazing. Sub 5 second 0-60, yes:) :) :)

So are you saying that the STi is a little better than the Evo, and that's why it can't be compared? Every article I've read for comparisons says the Evo VII is the "clear" winner, superior in everything except ride quality(which admittedly, is stiffer on the Evo, but that's how it's supposed to be)

The STi and Evo VII are very close. I have not seen a comparison of them yet, but I'm sure it will be close. And if you are only going to have one car, the STi is probably better. And the STi is a cheaper, so you can spend some money for improvements, making it as good or better than the Evo. It really comes down to personal preference in the end.:)

Can't really tell for the UK and Japan, but overhere in the Netherlands an EVO is a pretty rare sight (so is a Mustang BTW). Up to now only 35 cars (including those to rallyteams) have been sold here.
As for STi vs EVO. Well as soon as the Sti comes out, I'll be sure to test it against the EVO. It will probably be closely matched, but I am sure the EVO has the better ride (if you like performance that is not comfort).
As for upgrade.... The EVO can be easely upped. As I understand the standard VI comes preset at something like 0.8 bar boost. The standard ECU can take up to 1.1 bar, before the fuelcut comes in. With a remapped chip (available through PE) one is able to get 1.4 bar peak and 1.3 bar holding.
The factory mapping is VERY!!! rich. My exhaust is all black and I am able to throw flames and black clouds during shift and hitting the rev limiter. With the remap figures like 350 HP and 430 Nm seem possible. I'm already inquiring since I can't win of these damn chipped Impreza turbo's (MY99).

EVO's are rare anywhere in the world, but then up untill the EVO VII they all had VERY limited production runs. Same with the STi WRX.
However the EVO's little brother the Lancer GSR is a very common sight here, and most get "raped" riced out, you name it. Same with the standard WRX, thier everywhere. You can't go out on Fri/Sat night with out seeing several of them.

Ok, Chris, I will have to convince you that the Evo VII is superior through straight facts. Go to www.warrender.co.uk On the homepage, go to "road test" on the main navigation bar. Then scroll down to Twin Test-Mitsubishi Evo VII vs. Subaru Impreza STi. Then read the article. Remember, this is an STi Impreza vs. a stock Evo VII. The Evo VII is 1/10 slower in the 0-60 and 2/10 slower in 0-100, but the midrange acceleration embarrasses the STi, and the article in general concludes that the Evo is the better candidate. Also, about the STi being a better value than the Evo, that is also wrong. The end of the article gives you the price for both, 31995 sterling for the STi and 29995 sterling for the Evo VII. That means that you have 2000 sterling to improve the Evo VII. With 2000 sterling in mods, the Evo VII would put away the STi easily, so altogether the Evo VII is clearly the winner. Not to say the Evo VII is a better car, of course, many people would prefer an STi any day to an Evo VII b/c of personal preference, but based on value and performance, the Evo VII just performs better.

I looked at it, and in the end they are as even as ever to me.
The acceleration is dead even when not from a start, and the subie is slower in top gear because it is a 6 speed rather than a 5 speed in the EVO (a higher to ratio, for economy, most likely, so slower acceleration)
And the Subbie is faster.
Teh Evo has more compression, so the wrx could have more potential boost, or could get more compression.
Teh Subbie has a bigger gas tank, so it would weigh it down more (they do acceleration with a full tank of gas, and full, they weigh the same amount, so take out half of the Subbies gas, and it would do better). The subbie has 10mm narrower tires, and smaller brakes (but it still stopes better)
In the end, accounting for price, it comes down to Personal Preferences !!! Which one do you find more fun to drive, and brand preference, are really the final factors.
Everyone should read the article, though, it is quite good.

PS: In the comparo, the Evo wins because the guy likes it more, he is biased. I am biased for Subaru's, so I would pick it.
He almost comes right out and says "I like EVO's, so it won." Its so close, its personal preference.

Partly correct. The EVO runs much less advance then the STi due the higher compression ratio. Besides that I don't know what impact the different engine layout makes (boxer = flat 4 vs in line 4).
Yes it comes down to personal likings. One thing the EVO will NEVER achieve though.... That incredible exhaust note

True, the article is biased, but it's the best one I've read. I still believe that if you spent 2000 sterling on the Evo in engine mods, so that they are the same price, the evo would beat it. It's already close, and the engine mods would push it over the top.

Well, as we're talking about all around the world, I can say what I see in Turkey; actually only in 3 cities (other than this bunch; I do not believe there's a single Mitsu)...
Mitsu joined the market not long ago, 3-4 years with Carisma's only; other than Carisma's, Pajero Pinin is available since it's out...any other mitsu ; including EVO's and 3000 GT's are GREY...
thus, EVO is very rare , very! I believe there're only 20 sold in 99 - 01... and only 10 EVO VII's are available at the moment. Economically, it's quite unlucky when compared to Subari;s. We have WRX; but not STI models in here. Subaru sells around $40Km where as EVO VI TME was selling for $59K 6 months ago. Now EVO VII sells for $54K.
People in Turkey would buy an E200 K, or a BMW 520 for the same money, and that's exactly what;'s going on here.
So against Subaru's Mitsu needs to close the gap; and sell more to improve the competition on the ROAD :) Which is possible since EVO VI and VII are much better than any Impreza turbo we have here...
I believe EVo's will catch up with sales to Impreza's in a year ot two; only if they can educate the market; aboput these kind of cars...
Take care guys, and girls if any :)
