Has anyone else wondered what next September 11th will be called? I think it's safe to say that day will be forever marked on calendars, so what name should we endow upon it?

I've actually wondered that, too, and meant to put a thread up about it...
What name will history give it? Hmmm....

I think we should call it Hero Day because we also have to remember that the Pentagon was hit and Heroes from all over this country went to help.

I too have pondered this. And I agree that the theme of the hero should be incorporated into the title of this day. So many heroes arose that day. From the rescue workers, to the passengers who overtook the terrorists aboard the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania. Even the helpless passengers killed in the two WTC fligths and the Pentagon flight are heroes in my mind, as well as the people in the respective buildings killed by the impacts and aftermaths. They are war heroes who died to protect our way of life. For the terrorists needed to kill many to make their point significant. They were the Americans who sacrificed themselves for us. True, they didn't have a choice, which underscores the typical definition of a hero (i.e. one who willfully put's oneself into harms way to save or protect others), but to me they are heroes nevertheless.
I'd like to think of it as a celebration in terms of the re-emergence of the American spirit, which had never died, but had faded within our time of peace and prosperity. Shitty fact of life that tragedy and loss is such a profound way to stop taking what we have for granted, and to cherish it once again. But the renewal of these important values, that we begin to forget as we entangle ourselves in this crazy world, is the meaning we draw from this day. That's what I'd like September 11th to stand for.
