cai getting wet

i know this question has been done to death, but i forget the specific yes or no answer.

will everyday wetness from rain or water splashing get into the system? or will water only get into the motor if the opening of the intake is actually under water?

by pass valve just to be safe.... One of my friends hit a poodle in a altima. All I have to say is. Its been in the shop for 1 year. Engine was gone.... bloop, bloop!!!
