alright at the races last night and talkin with a bud of mine about the swap im going to do EG SOHC VTEC swap. Ok so like u guys can porbably already tell im still learning, i kow more than any girl i know (except ami but i dont know her know her) but i still dont know much about swaps and that stuff
So anyway talking to my friend and he says that i need to get a crx si tranny, ecu and harness for the swap and i tell him well im not trusting your ass to do the swap im gonna have it done and he says still if i take the complete swap to one of the shops around here (autosport addiction, CBI, westcoast motorsports) they wont know what the fuck to do when it comes to those components of the swap since they are different (clutch to hydraulic, obd0 to obd1, you guys know what i mean)
So is this a common thing that people do for these swaps, use crx si stuff or what? help me out because i really dont want to do that because it will be harder to piece together the swap like that.
Any help would be appreciated guys :what:

yeah, EGs use a hydro tranny, I can't remember if HAsport makes a cable to hydro, or hydro to cable conversion kit...www.hasport.com You will have to do some rewiring on the harnes. Ef si's have a shorter final drive but otherwise the same as a dx tranny.

Ef si's have a shorter 5th gear but otherwise the same as a dx tranny.
please dont pass on incorrect knowledge. the dx and si tranny's have all the same gears except the final gear on an Si is geared more toward acceleration and the DX is geared more towards gas mileage/top speed.
the engine is a direct swap and you can use most of your existing si parts if you have an Si or an HF. the DX requires more wiring to swap the DPI to MPFI fuel injection, as well as an Si ECU.
The smartest route is to convert to obd1 and go witha p28 ecu.

ok so which one is p28 ecu (thanks for your replies)

p28 ECU is the sohc vtec ECU. YOu can use non-obd ecus such as pm6 and pg7 but you'll have to find a way to activate vtec, plus the fuel and timing curves aren't optimal for the engine.

Lisa...get the parts and bring them up here :D. jer and i will have it in 6 hrs easy. 4 if you & your boyfriend want to get your hands dirty ;)
91civicDXdude is right on all points. in short....your best set up would be:
si tranny
p28 ecu
wiring conversion harness
MPFI conversion
please feel free to e-mail me (LadyNRedCivicSi@aol.com) or AIM (LadyNRedSi) anytime :D

the cable/hydro difference isnt really the reason you dont use the 92-up tranny...its the mounts...the mounts are totally different. the reason this swap actually works, is that 3 of the 4 mounts are actually on the tranny...so by using the 88-91 tranny, you're guaranteeing 3 of the 4 mounts line up ;)

Dx final drive is 3.888
Si final drive is 4.250
The rest are the same.

no, you said they have a shorter 5th gear. The final drive is NOT 5th gear. Si and Dx trannys have the same gears but different final drives.

Or if you wanna get the best Cable D Series tranny, do what i did, get a ZC Tranny and put in the Si final Drive!!

that sounds too complicated for me myfirst4thgen;)
But guys thanks for the help really i appreciate it, so i should buy the crx si tranny and if the swap comes with a tranny ill sell it.
So Ami when u say MPFI conversion that means i also need to buy all the components for that also, right?
Just curious Ami do U or Jer know how to do the vtec wiring and harness wiring, i know that everyone i know has not taken the time to learn so they tell me if im gonna pay them to do my swap i still will have to take it somewhere to get it wired and i'm like......uhh no.

I have a question in regards to the ecu to use. I just did my sohc vtec swap last weekend in my 91 Si. Everything is good, using the 91 Si tranny and intake manifold. Oh yeah, I did the D16Y8 not the D16Z6, so I can still adjust my timing. The Si dist bolts right up the the Y8 unlike the Z6 which requires notching. Anyway, I am using a PG7 ecu right now. I dont have vtec hooked up yet because I'm waiting to either get the rpm activated window switch or a shift light with the switchable pills. Anyway, whats the power differences between the PG7 and the P28 (is that right?)?

I'm not sure of the gains between the PG7 and the p28, but i am almost positive that the engine will run a lot smoother and the way it should with the p28 because thats the correct ECU for the engine.......

well if that's the benefits then BOOO!!! The car runs smoothly, idles smoothly and is pretty quick as it is. Can't wait for vtec hookup. Last night I put a 91 Si two cars back.

Nice, well, good to hear that its running smoothly, i guess just buy a MSD RPM Activated Switch......

damn right. put a HP Racing header from my 88 4th gen on it today. Anyone wanna buy a 88 hatch with WW kit for 2300? I live in NW Florida. Still has original 1.5 with 142,000 and DPFI. Runs like a dream though.

Is the HP Racing header any good? cause i've heard they are rated pretty well.........

I have no seat of the pants feel reply or any dyno results but fitment, welds, and aesthetics are great. I have the chrome versions which burns to a real nice golden color with some "blueing" in high heat areas. Truly beautiful.
