No reverse lights

I have a 91 civic DX and recently I installed a short shifter into my car. Just yesterday I noticed that my reverse lights weren't working. I looked around for an acitvation switch in the car and around the shifter but couldn't find one. I have checked my bulbs and fuse and niether was burned out. I know that the reverse lights are on the same circuit as the corner lights and blinkers and they are working.

Does anyone know how to remedy this problem or where I can find the switch that activates these lights?

I have been a long time reader of the board but now I am a member and proud to be one.
Your help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hey, I asked this question back in July... here's some of the responses I got (saved the page to my computer since the threads disappear)... hope this helps...

MY ORIGNAL QUESTION:
My reverse lights stopped working this week...

1. Tried replacing the bulbs (although I really didn't think that was the problem since they both went out at the same time).

2. Tried replacing the fuse (I didn't think this was the problem either - same fuse for the turn signals, which work fine).

So any ideas where my problem is? I'm guessing some wires came loose...?

AND WHAT THE BOARD SAID:

EF_LSVtec:
There are 2 wires that usually hang or sit on your tranny just under the distributor...you cant interchange em, male and female...they are for the back up lights. Also, check above the left shock tower (driverside), there should be a round plug with maybe 9 wires plugged to it...the one in the bottom (red) is the back up lights...check these 2 first and see if they're loose or something...

habib_88:
I think the tranny as plug that goes into it, its actaully the reverse switch. It shouldn't be to hard to find i think i remeber running into the one on my tranny before. Check the connections on it, or maybe you just need a new switch?

The reverse light switch is located on the top of the transmission, just behind the distributor I believe.

7PSICRX:
Here's a little trick that might work, it did for me.

If it has a washer, remove it.

If it does not have a washer, add one.

While you have the switch out, plug the wires back in, turn the ignition on, and depress the plunger to see if the switch itself is working.

blah screw all that just get a tester light, put your car in reverse then test the wire going into the back, if it doesnt come on you know its either ground, the wire may be cut or burnt or your fuse it out...

I did the switch change yesterday. I went to the pick-a-pull got a used one. It was kinda hard to get the damn thing off.(no space) I had to take of a plastic holder that goes to the bottom radiator hose. I also had to take the battery out. With those two things out of the way it should be a breeze. If you are still having trouble getting to it,to free up more space you can take the distributor off. Took me about 30 minutes to complete. I put the shifter in reverse and PRESTO!! WE HAVE REVERSE LIGHTS HOUSTON!...Thanks for the good info and good luck!!!
