I don't see why not. Foil is foil. Bare metal's advantage is that it's super thin and it's adhesive. For tail lights though that doesn't matter much. I once saw a live demo where a guy was using plain aluminum foil to cover an airplane, amazing. He recommended using the cheapest foil from the grocery store as that was also the thinnest. He glued it with a mixture of rubber cement and thinner which he applied with a thick brush. Hope this helps

I used foil to cover the hood on my attached Integra. I used spray adhesive. All I did was spray it on the press on the foil from the center out. Worked decently, although I got a very small wrinkle. I used Kroger brand, but I'd go for the cheapest, crappiest kind you can. I'd also polish and wax it once it's on and dry.
Edit: Everything else was done with Model Master Krome Foil.

I dont know if using a foil would be any better thatn just painting a crome color, a lot of light covers are not clear and you cant dee detail through them very well at all.

One option is to vacuform a new clear part with 0.3 mm acetate... that'd make it crystal clear. To enhance the effect you could use MV lenses under the clear parts.

Another cheep option for foil is to use the foil out of cigarette packets and stick it down with 3M Photo mount, the advantage with this foil is the paper backing, and it doesn’t wrinkle as easily as normal kitchen foil. I also like the look of it.
It looks great on the transmit ion tunnel inside race cars !
One small thing though.......... I don't smoke and when I ask my co-workers for there old cigarette packets, I get some REALLY funny looks!
