I just purchased a 98 Max SE with 62 thousand miles on it, and im looking for somemore performance and lower miles, and im wondering if and if so where i would find a 2002 engine? directly from a nissan dealer? Also what is the better super/turbo charger? Also Which type of super/turbo charger could i get the most hp out of?

If only it were that simple.... I'm no expert, but I would say you will probably have to custom fabricate mounts for it, figure out a way to run the drive axles, since I'm sure the engines don't sit in the exact same spot on the 4th and 5th gens, you will also need a 5th gen 2002 ECU, and figure out how to make all of it work. Your only options right now are either a Stillen S/C, or pay $$$ for a Custom Turbo, or you can wait for a few more months when some more companies will be introducing there own forced induction... ;)
Good luck with whatever you decide to do...

The 2002 is not worth the work, you engine is perfectly fine. The potential is beyond your knowledge, but trust me, the more you drive your car, the more you will see. My friend has a max like yours with 50 shot nitros, cold air intake, and an exhaust. that thing runs almost 14 flat. if you want power. SUPERCHARGE that bitch. I can get STILLEN to hook you up if you want. It's a lot safer that a turbo for everyday driving. It runs of your pulleys so you get sufficiant boost. if you want more, have someone custom build and intercooler system for you. One of our fellow Maxima fans has one, but I'm unable to disclose that information at this time. you don't need all that. the regular stillen supercarger will be the absolute point of enjoyment in your life. It'll make you forget your girlfriend is in the car.

Stillen makes the kit, Vortech supplies the blower. Max boost on stock internals would be about 10-11psi. With an intercooler I'd say you could do about 12 psi or so. Still not enough to get you into the 11's though... :(

Unless you get one in a wreck it is going to cost ya an arm and a leg to get one w/o the install. The dealer is first choice though but you are talking around 6 grand.

The Maxima 2000 and over has essentially the same engine that you have, they changed all the air intake components, including the intake manifold, and also they changed all the exhaust components, placing a multivariable muffler, so a mod, in the air intake as in the exhaust part should raise your engine power similar to a “001 Maxima
