NSX & RX7 Completed!! (10 pics inside)

just wanted to share my last two completed projects. i started them at the beginning of the year and finished them last week... i've been waiting for a good chance to take some pictures of them outside. Its been really really cold out here in NY. They are both tamiya kits. the NSX was packaged as an Acura but i "converted" it into a Honda. The front and rear emblems were made by using BMF and 5 minute epoxy. i used a PE "H" emblem as the template. I did the same thing for the RX7 emblem. doing so allowed for easier polishing of the RX7 rear. I added PE door lock cylinders to the NSX and put a stretched spru antenna as well. H emblems on the rims were taken from the spare decal bag i've started. Overall, both kits were fun to make. the hood of the RX7 had a nasty habit of popping out due to the windshield wiper being in the way but other than that, neither kit posed any major problems. let me know what you all think

Your work is very hi quality, I like the engine detail on the RX-7 and the lights on the NSX are cool, do they come poped up or was that a mod by you ?

The lights come as a separate part so that they can be put up or down. its pretty cool.

Yo man, can U explain how U did those "H" and RX7 emblems again? I am confused but that sounds interesting, I want to try it.

thank you all for your comments.:)
to answer some of the questions:
1. the tires (tyres) and wheels are all stock. they came with the kit. the back wheels were wider.
2. I hear you Fly, later today i will pick some putty up and will take the time to try to see which one of the unbuilt models i already own will have some modifications
3. the interior of the RX7 is painted a mix of deck tan, clear and a touch or orange.
4. the tail lights were painted as the instructions said. i masked with tape and airbrushed gloss black, then i brush painted the orange and red. nothing special.

thanks again for you interest. soon i will post a poll to help me decide what kind of body work i will attempt next.

Gladly! the technique was taken from Hiroaki's webpage which is loaded with great ideas and how to apply them. here is the link to the page on his site that describes how to use BMF and epoxy glue to make emblems and scripts. http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~xr2h-fkd/scalemodels/project/porsche/rmboxster/rmboxster03.htm

Still need help. I am confused about the 3rd step, next to the 3rd picture. It says "When the epoxy is hardened, I turn it over again and paint the body color, since it's almost impossible to trim the spaces between the letters." I do not understand it. Can U please explain that to me? The picture itself is confusing too. I don't get what he is doing.

it is a bit confusing but what i take it to mean is that you paint it like the body color so that when you cut it out, anything that you missed will be the same color as the car. brush painting is the best way to do it. paint around the script and then thin the paint and let it flow into the grooves of the letters. finally, i would lightly polish or rub out any paint that is on the letters so that they shine and are clearly readable. hope that clears things up somewhat. have fun with it... i certainly did. Thanks to Hiroaki that is

Excellent work! This is the Tamiya RX7-R1, yes? Curious cos I've got the same model and the tires don't look as fat.

Top marks on both!! :D x 10 ^ 999

Be careful when moving the NSX's lights; the corners are a tight fit, and I've chipped the paint on one of mine. Pay attention to them as the pop into place...

I'd love to see a super-close-up of the "H" emblem if you could manage... :sun:

Jay,
i understand that it isn't a true Honda NSX... perhaps you can consider it an Acura NSX with an owner that wanted to throw some Honda badges onto it and some JDM center caps for the rims...;) i did follow the instructions for the acura. thats why there are no side markers.

here are some pictures of the emblem as per your request. the first one is merely the "H" emblem while the second also has a piece of the foil i used to make them. they just need to be cut out. I made a bunch of extras just in case i screwed up. think i have like 5 workable emblems left. they are safely stowed in the spares box;) . oh and sorry about the picture quality. my digicam is terrible at close range... need to go shopping for a new one with a good macro option
