Does anyone have any pics of installed sound deadening and what is the best material to use?

I dont got any pics, but I can suggest going to www.secondskinaudio.com and take a look at their prices. I guess the stuff is just like Dynomat but much cheaper.

how does that stuff rate compare to dynomat? not including price, but soundwise. and has anyone heard of brown bread, is that stuff any good?

I have heard lots of good things about brownbread .... just be careful, sometimes the adhesive is not too good.

I wanna put sound deadening material in my car to reduce the sound and road noise but i dont want it to ruin the appearance of the car.
If applied to say the trunk lid could it be painted over?

I wouldnt worry too much about the look of the car from inside the trunk, but I was assume that you could paint over it if you would like.

I'd worry more about weight than anything. That sound deadening stuff is heavy, and i know that in my slow civic, more weight = even slower for me. I've always wanted a quieter interior, but haven't done it cause of the extra weight of the stuff. Just one pack of Dynamat weighs a lot. just my two cents

Right now im not too worried bout my car being fast (its an auto DX HAHAHAHA) Right now im just trying to make it sound and look good :).
Later on im gonna do an engine swap.....possibly a B18B LS engine:D
So no one knows about painting over sound deadening?

im sure you coul primer and paint over it, but like whoana said, you dont need to. you apply it directly to the metal, underneith the carpeting. so youll never see anything after you put everything back.

I thought that the interior of the trunk lid was just bare metal?

aah, ya got me there. i forgot about that. i have no idea then, i dont recall seeing any show cars with dynamat on the lid. if you wanted to dynamat the lid, just deal with the look. painting over it will look ugly cause you wont be able to blend the edges into the metal cleanly.

alternatively, you could make some type of panels to cover the area
scarlemthug
01-30-2003, 05:01 PM
What do you mean by a panel? and how could i mount it?
You dont think I could just apply the dynamat and get some factory paint and paint over it?

painting it may be UGLY ........ just meaning you might be able to fabricate some type of shaped panels to cover the dynamat. Unfortunately, such a panel may be prone to rattling - which is the very problem you are trying to get rid of.
scarlemthug
01-30-2003, 08:50 PM
Yes it may cause rattling.....the only reason im kinda wondering about the dynamat on the trunk lid is because one, well I wanna remove the rattling and two I might wanna do the flip flop trunk thing but if i dont I wouldnt want ugly dynamat all over the trunk area:S

if you cover the floor of a vehicle with dynamat does it have to be covered with a rigid material to prevent damage to the dynamat?

At our shop we use Rhino Liner on the inside of the trunk lid, and inside the doors and the spair tire well it stops all vibration can be color matched, and looks better that foil looking dynomat.
Any shop that does spary in bedliners will be able to do the trunk for you i would take it off take it to them with everything masked that you do not want to get sprayed. it will not ratle anymore.

actually, if it is applied correctly - it looks pretty good

So this rhino liner stuff is like a sheet material aswell but it can be color matched?
My other option is to sound deaden the trunk and then take it off and have it painted by a shop?

no, the bedliner stuff is like a harder version of dynomat. It sprays on
scarlemthug

:OThanx
So this stuff could be color matched to my car and just sprayed on and work as well as dynamat?

I have no experience with the stuff, so I will have to take cfmotorsports word on how well it works as a sound deadener.

What about using an undercarriage spray?
There is a product from dupli-color that is for undercarriage spraying and it eliminates sound and rust? Do you think this would be a good option for my trunk?

I have brown bread on my trunk lid and around most of my trunk. The stuff is just silver and when most people see my trunk they say hey cool you have dynamat. Im like no but thanks for noticing. it looks just fine but if you need to paint it you can. I just dont think it looks that bad.
Oh and as far as weight goes i think putting brown bread in my trunk added about 1lb to the my car. DAMN IT SLOWWWED ME DOWN :p

i saw brown bread in ebay and it seemed like a good price, does it work as well as dynamat xtreme in durability (lifespan), and reducing road noise?

Oh yeah. I think it works just as good if not better. My thousand watts RMS dont make nearly the amount of rattle that they did before. I spent over 100$ for the 35 square ft and i dont regret it.

thanks for the info spl. that stuff has to weigh more than a pound, it's more like 10-20 pounds, you know it'll take 30 more horses to make it up! :D
SPLThunder
02-06-2003, 06:22 PM
Ok so it add a few pounds but compared to my box and subs that weigh more like 100-150lbs it didnt really matter to much for me. If you are a real freak over needing your car to be that light then i wonder why you would put a system in it at all.
simply put the mass ratio of sounddeadening material to the acctual system shouldnt be to much
and correct me if im wrong but i believe the general rule is 10hp for every 100 lbs

you can also use that expanding foam stuff for hard to get areas .... just be very carful how much you put into a crevice - reports are that it can actually bow out an outside panel, and it would nearly impossible to fix

If you are concerend with resale value of you car or just dont want to look at the foil side of dampers on your truck lid you can paint most of them however it looks kinda cheesy.
here is how I did my wifes civic with Second Skin STFU-80
http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/392984/2
the last layer is rattle pad. It is not designed to go in areas like that, but it seemed to work fine.
let me know what you think!
