Perfomance Parts

Where does everyone get their perfomance parts? I'm thinking about getting a B18A1, but I want to see what all is made for it before I decide on getting it. I want to make sure its worth my money, or see if i should just wait for a B18B. This info would be nice to have soon, because I'm gonna go ask this guy about the B18A tomorrow to make sure the engine has no warpage or anything. Thanks guys.

You will be a helluva lot better off than me! I bought a JDM DOHC ZC... OUCH, not alot for it (AKA I have to search my ass off) But I am finding all kinds of shit... So far I got Pistons Rods Cams Cam Gears, Uhh thats about all the aftermarket parts I could find so far.... I do see B18A/B parts all over the fuckin place, if you want to see how available parts are for X engine go to www.yahoo.com and type in "B18A1 PERFORMANCE PARTS" Im sure you will find stuff up the ass... Then for shits and giggles type in DOHC ZC PERFORMANCE PARTS so you can feel my pain :cwn27:

I thought you were the big fan of ZC's? that is why i chose not to go with a ZC, i heard about its lack for parts, hopefully this B18A has better luck.

I like a chalenge... I also like it when someone pulls up behind you and says "Fuck man, what the fuck you got under the hood?" Then you pop it and they see a N/A ZC.... You should have no problems with your motor.

Alright, I have found one place so far to get some internals for this B18A, so I am sure I will be able to find more once I start looking hard.
Now, I have a few more questions for you all.
1. Is there any place to explain what everything does? or at least a breif explanation, such as (these are also seperate questions)
2. What makes your compression higher/lower?
3. What all does getting a bored out throttle body do and a aftermarket intake manifold?(I understand it increase air flow, but what else does this cause?)
Any other questions such as these. If there is something you think i should now, feel free to say....if you have nothing to say to help me, please don't say anything....Thank you, Come Again!:D

1. There are plenty of places you can look to see what does what... You just have to look. If your stuck I can come up with some directions to point you in ( I dont know mutch about B18A1's except people keep blowing them up with VTEC heads)
Getting verry in depth on Q#2 so you better fuckin read ALL of this.
2. (CR is key for Compression Ratio) Well to increase the CR you can do a lot of things. First of all the length in which the piston travels can Lower OR Highten the CR, the longer the piston moves (Stroke) the higher the CR will be (Untill of course it hits the valves <---- BAD)the longer the piston moves the higher the low/mid HP and TQ... It also meens you dont make crap @ higher RPM's because the piston cant move as fast. The shorter the distance the piston moves the lower the CR because it doesent compress as much air and gas due to it not traveling as far. Now you will get more HP @ higher RPM's and even (With balancing) get more RPM's with shorter rods (RODS are what connects the piston to the crankshaft... You prolly knew that but just in case ;) ) However you will hurt @ low end power and TQ (TQ is key for torque) with shorter rods, UNLESS you use higher CR pistons!!! Higher CR pistons work in many MANY different ways as well as low CR pistons but to give you a an idea or two, a flat piston top will have a low CR... A dish piston top will have a VERRY low CR... A dome shaped piston will have a high CR and a "Roller Wave" piston will have a VERRY high CR. The roller wave pistons: http://www.theoldone.com/components/pistons/b18c_rollerwave.jpg (Here is a pic for you) Has a higher CR because it has more surface area for the fuel to burn on. Also note the area's which sit under the intake/exaust valves, see how its "Dished out" only in those area's? Thats to creat better flow and "Suck" in more fuel/air.... Now onto headwork! Headwork is an AWSOME way to raise/lower CR that is often overlooked! If you shave the head 1/8mm it will reward you with a substanital CR boost! (Not recomended with longer/normal rods) if you want to make it a low revving monster you add metal to the head/block... I sopose you could shave the top of the block as well, but I never heard of anyone doin it so it leads me to believe there is a reason for that :dunno: head gaskets can raise/lower CR.... Im sure theres more you could do to rasie/lower CR but I think I have done my part...
3. A bored out TB (Trotle Body) will allow more air into the IM (Intake Manifold) Now when you have a high CR and want to utilize all of it you get a bigger TB and a higher flowing IM with bigger injectors so you can get more fuel/air into the cylinder that the better "Flowing" pistons ask for... Same thing with FI (Forced Induction AKA turbo/nos/supercharger) you want to have better flow so it will move air/fuel into the cylinder faster... :bandit:

Thank you, someone finally opens some light onto this subject for me. I am thinking about making the B18 a N/A monster, hopefully. Just gotta know what I am looking for, and you helped me out there.
Would anyone know what all will have to done to bore out a 1.8 to either a 1.9 or 2.0? I was reading an article over Signal's Non-Vtec N/A CRX and they were talking about they bored out the 1.6 to a 1.8. This got me to thinking about what all it would take, or if you could, to bore out the 1.8.
Yes I know, I don't really know that much yet, but I would like to find this stuff out before I get the engine, and also before I start working on this engine.

To Theodditie... Read ALL of this ;)
I have looked at that site plenty of times and there shit is TAXED OUT THE ASS!!! Dont buy from them! I got my ZC from www.hmotorsonline.com these guys are trust worthy and FAST upon delivery. I live in northern cali they are in LA which is WAY south... 2 Days the motor was @ my door for $750 with lots of things most people usualy dont get with a short block... I would recomend them to anyone! Not sure if they have B18A/B's, but if you are going Naturaly Asperated you want a VTEC motor! Non vtec motors, such as -----> D16A6- ZC- B18A/B and so on, arent that great for ALL MOTOR setups... Sure you can make power with them NA style but they are not going to be near as fast as a NA VTEC motor. Sound to me like you want a B16A or (If you got money out the ass) a B18C1 (GSR MOTOR) What kind of car do you have and were do you live? I will help you find a motor suplier close to you (Cheaper shiping) that is trust worthy and doesent tax you ( I hate motor places that rape you for your hard earned money for a simple $20 hot tank and make you think its brand new) So yea, I need to know car (IE year and type) and budjet, then I can help you.

No offence taken dude! I was just tellin him were he could get a good engine and explaning some of the more sophisticated views on CR... Its all good :sun: By the way, when you open your shop hook me up with a decient price on a turbo kit! I want a Gredy kit without a turbo.... Actualy I just want the manifold. Everything els wont work with what Im doin. But if you can get DOHC ZC parts I will track you down and lay a phat juicy kiss on your ass! :frog:

thanks 4gb16adx.
Seth: I know you can get more out of a VTEC N/A, but I have sort of the same reasoning as your with your ZC. That Signal CRX I mentioned, ran 11's N/A non-Vtec. I have just ran into a good deal that hopefully follows through. I have a friend up at work, that one of his friends(yes I know sounds kinda stupid) has a 89 Civic HB that has been wrecked. The guy was stupid and tried to go under a semi, and the back tires caught up with him, so the back is f*ked up. But so far all the info I got out of it is, the engine in it has a tuned up, got a turbo on it, and the car used to be a nice, fast car. Don't know if all of this is true or not, but hopefuly it is. The guy want 500 bucks for the whole car and will give me 7 monts to pay it out. I'm supposed to meet with the guy tomorrow to go look at it, and if everything goes well, it will be sitting in my garage tomorrow night.
Once I heard this, my brain already had ideas running through it. Thinking, "Should I swap the engine into my car right now? or should I wait, get a Si body and swap it in it, and use it as a daily driver/show car and let this one sit a while until I can get a B18A/B built up for it, to make it a beast? So far, I'm leaning towards my second thought, since I already know where a Si body is sitting, just begging for a new engine in it. Damn I'm a Honda-holic :D:D
Thank you seth for wanting to help me find an engine, but even if this falls through, I already have a B18A in line waiting for that 500 bucks. I do though appreciate the thought and the advice on where and where not to buy parts from.

I would, but so far from what i heard, sounds like the engine is just a B16, I want a b18-20 in the dx. I know the Si weighs more, that is why i said it will be my daily driver/show car and the dx will be my monster, whether it be a drag monster, or an auto-x monster, it will be a monster one day. If i do it this way, I will have 2 projects, instead of just one. :D

You live 5 minutes from signal? can i come live with you? j/k damn, if i was able to I might, but i really want to do as much work as i can to any thing i do to the car. I want to gain more experience, i thrive for more knowledge, but that is a good damn idea, too bad there ARE NO GOOD SHOPS AROUND HERE!!!!!! I live in F*ning Oklahoma, we have shit. :(

Nope! you will be broke and never finish iether one... Then you will end up selling one to finish the other and not getting half the money you invested in the one.... As you can tell I have been down this road before... :bloated:

Nah, I really don't see that happening to me. I have high hopes for me, don't want to be like the rest of my family, striving to keep money. This is my reasoning for going to college. I predict I will have both cars finished, might take me several years, but I will not give up, nor sell either one of them to finish the other. I see myself as a true Honda-holic, I cannot turn my back on one to help the other out. If all this goes as planned, or close to planning, I won't be in that big of a hurry with the dx, since I will have another car to drive at the time, so I can just take my sweet time, and make sure everything is done right the first time.

I hafta say that the guys at SPEEDWORKS (http://www.speedworksonline.com) know what they're doing. The owner is one of my best friends and has always treated me really good. He only deals with good quality products, and has good prices, too. You should give them a call! I can also get ahold of full swaps from a motor shop here, if you want me to check on prices for you.

how do you plan on maintianing two cars while in college... college = broke heh i can't even afford to drive my car right now, damned thing has been sitting in a garage for damned near a year now...
Tony

that is probably what is going to happen with the dx, sit in the garage for a year or so. Like I said if all goes as planned, I'll get the si and use it as a main car, make sure everything is going fine on it, then slowly start to work on the dx. I know nothing goes as planned, but if it half way does and I end up with this other car tonight, I will not sell one car to finish another, to me that just ruins the whole point.
