Technical Sub question

My new box is in

2 12" woofers pointed toward the back with 2 4" ports exiting through the rear deck lid. The trunk has dynamat

When the trunk is open the subs are hella loud and sound great. The rattling in my car isnt that much. the problem is when i close my trunk. The subs just dont sound as loud. I cant turn them up enough to get it to sound as loud without the whole car rattling. I know i cant do much about the rattling. sooo...

What causes the drop in loudness? and what can i do to avoid it?

the box is not suited too well to the car/trunk. Try repositioning the box and facing it in different directions.

Or it could also be that your 2 4" ports aren't enough to let all the pressure in.

that would be a box design problem ... I am assuming he has a car/stereo problem. Bass in a car environment is basically the same as a piston compressing a volume of air.

what is the stuff in?? That will help diag the problem

The box is 3' cubic internal volume made of 1 1/8" MDF. Sealed with liquid nails, silicone sealant, and 2 3/4" drywall screws. ports are PVC

I cant face my ports in the same direction as the woofers but if i face them the opposite direction will it get rid of any of the cancellation caused by how they are pointed now???

I still think it is positioning. This is absolutely the hardest kind of thing to troubleshoot over the internet, a cople of hours looking at it would really help

I have an idea for a quick fix.
What do you think about a couple of rubber plugs in the ports while i have the trunk closed and if i want to show it off and get really loud i can take them out?

A actually meant to ask what kind of car he has. That could help a lil with the positioning.
