2001 Hondas are ulgy

Haven't seen anyone mention this, but does anybody else besides me thinks that the 2001s are ugly? On the new Civics, the size of the badge on the grill is too big, the grill is painted chrome (instead of black), the rear lights are awful, the headlights on the new Si is way too big (looks like it takes up half the hood), the chrome accents aren't working (front grill and back plate), the shape of the rear is awful, and the sharp ridges on the sides are just ugh! It's like they tried to make the Civic classier, but it's mostly teens and commuter who buy it. I also feel they may also be trying to copy the Jetta in some aspects, but I don't have solid evidence on that. IMO, Honda should just go for the gold and go after the auto freaks who buy Civics just to tune them. When I first saw the 7th generation Civics, I just though they butchered it up. The rear lights are one of my biggest gripes--my God the coupe looks awful! Reminds me of the Ford Focus.

As for the 2001 Accords, they look great until you see the rear. I think both the coupe and the sedan has awful lights. Why is the coupe's rear so futuristic looking? Isn't the Accord supposed to be the more upscale Honda model. (Look at Toyota, compare the Camry to its lesser models). I also don't like that the sedan's rear lights take up the whole rear. Reminds me of the early 90s accords (which is what I'm driving). I must admit that the lenses they use in the sedan is cool looking--it's so shiny and glittery!

Your right but theyll grow on you like all hondas do.. Ive seen several coupes that have some stuff done to them.. They dont look half bad. but its all a matter of opinion.

Yeah, I must admit, the civic sedan is growing on me. I still don't like, but I hate it less now. I still strongly dislike the other models (civic coupe, accord sedan+coupe).

So I see you guys don't like the 7th gen, well thats too bad. At first it took me a few months to get used to the look of the 2k1. I used to have a 5th gen but sold it so I could buy this car. I am very happy I got this car. The gas mileage is incredible, the car is so smooth, you dont even know it is running. The car rides so nice and has more power than my 94 civic.
The outside of the car is where everyone has there dislikes right? The taillights have grown on me, I like them now. I just hate how everyone with a 2k1 wants altezzaas....Now those are just plain nasty. The front of the car is nice. I like the styling. The grill on my car isnt chrome, or black it is the body color which is silver. The chrome that you are probably talking about is the trim on the sedan, I have a coupe. That is how you can tell the two apart if they are headed towards you. The sedan has chrom trim on its grill and the coupe has body colored trim. The 2k1 is 100% better than previous generation civics, and if you give it a chance and take one for a test drive you too will see how good they are. I know in a few years when they release the 8th gen civic that people arent going to like them either. I remember when the 6th Gen came out, no one liked the big headlamps, they thought it was ugly. It just takes time for the new look to grow on people, and it will.

That Si looks sick. That definitely mad it look a lot better. See, anytime you modify a car, it takes on a whole different attitude. I wouldn't mind owning one of those babies.

Hatcback? Eww!

When I think hatchback, I think the civic. Woo wee! don't get me started on civic-style hatchbacks. To me they look like a miniature touring (sports wagon) with the end chopped off--and when I think touring, I think five doors, I think soccer mom.

Europe has a gross fascination with hatches. Touring-style hatches just never appealed to me. Actually, for the longest time I really hated Civics, because all the ones I saw were ugly hatches (and I thought ALL Civics must be hatches). Lo and behold, I saw some nice looking coupes and saloons (sedan), and was shown the error of my Civic hating ways.

For some reason, when I think of hatchbacks, I don't think of the Supra, or the 3 series compact, or the Integra, or the Eclipse. But these are technically hatches.

Btw, are these coming to the states? I read mostly UK car magazines and I know they're getting it first (since it's manufactured in the UK).

I saw the new Si yesterday, and I thought ":huh:." Pics soon... :D

Hondas are just... not ugly... but they have a bad name. Every white kid goes out and gets one and then thinks he can talk about racing... Then there are the people who put some much crap into the car, its pointless. Get a car with balls and doent make it look like a riceburner.:bandit:

that pic of the SI looks a hell of a lot better than the ones ive seen on Honda websites. Maybe its the lowering...... Im still not a big fan of the looks. Those pointy headlights are kinda ugly and its just so....... round. The new rally shifter feature's a nice touch. I wouldnt mind trying that out just to see what its like. Speaking of which what does everyone think about tiptronic? Ive never used but im curious about it.

First I own a 89 Civic si and am a Civic fan and agree that the sedan is pretty fugly but I like the coupe. The lines are nice and looks great when modded. My Civic has 180,000 mi on it and it runs like new. That says a lot about Honda Motor Co.

mmmmm. Hondas last forever. My brother was driving one with 250,000 on it and running like new with almost all the original parts. The only reason it died is because it hit a Blazer and got totaled. But it flipped over the Blazer.:D

Damn Right the new civics looks like honda teamed up with ford to make it. it looks almost identicle to the focus in the back. my friend has one and we make fun of him all the time because he thinks its good, it is not even manual!!:mad:

I have to agree that the new Civics are definitely ugly. Whoever said they remember when 6th Gen came out and nobody liked it sounds mistaken to me. When the 6th Gen were new I thought they were great. I really liked the evolution from the 5th gen, it looked a little less like a toy car and more like the coupe I always thought it should have been. The new evolution of Civics makes me unbelievably happy that I got a 99, before they could butcher the poor car. I have yet to see a 7th Gen that I like, modified or otherwise. They definitely scream "Ford Focus," and it appears as if Honda gave up on having a sportier look, and instead are replicating this bigger, chunky look that Ford and Toyota (with the Echo) seemed strangely content to go with on their coupes and sedans. I haven't seen a 7th Gen hatch, so I have no opinion on that matter, but as for the coupe and the sedan, as a Honda fan I've tried really hard to like them, but everytime I see one it just makes me wince. What an aesthetic nightmare. :apuke:

One big problem with the new civic is that it is longer and heavier than a older civic, plus there isn't much after-market parts out for it at the moment. in my opinion this is the worst looking car i would rather buy a ford than that.

It's a brand new Chassis that's why so much weight increase. The older chassis has been used for 10 years now. This new one is much stiffen and rigid. Although the suspension unit on Civic is horrible. They should tune it like RSX then it will be fine.

I agree with civicdude. I like the newest gen and think it is vastly superior in looks to the previous. The front lights of the new one are mch better than the last ones. My .02 worth.

i know this is a free country, and you can say whatever the hell you want...

but i love my 2001 ACCORD COUPE, the 3 hole bumper looks awesome and so does the big H, the only problem is you cant take the grill out :mad: but i can live w. that.......
on the tail light part honda try to make it look more sporty making em look like the NSX.

but unfortunally if you go to www.accordv6.com, SHO or HS you'll find tons of 6G accord 2001+ and 98-2000 cause they are all the same.

when the last gen civics came out most people loved it it was one of the best inventions and aftermarket companies started making add ons quickly to get the import tuners to buy it. the new car did not go over as well as prev years. the new civic looks alot different in a bad way and many people will never like it but it is an import and someone will make a new civic look bad ass and then people will be talking about it.

Just a quick piece of info, the Zetec engines aren't Vtec "imitations", Zetec is a family of engines.

Ya'll know what VTEC is? Everyone and their grandma's car company has it now. I guess it's a big deal because it's in an economy cars, but even a Toyota supermini has CVT. (Yes, I know they're totally different technologies)

I'm not trying to start an argument but your post makes no sense. You're saying that "everyone" has VTEC, but then you cite a car that has a totally different technology, which you then admit is not VTEC at all. That's like arguing that my egg is the same as your potato, even though they're totally different...

That's because they didn't change much from the previous generation. It didn't have a new engine and new chassis like current NEW Civic does. The new engine spins the other way around from old generations.

It's Continous Variable Tranmission which has nothing to do with Engine!! CVT was offered on Civic back in late 90's. Now it is only offered on Insight.

VTEC is just a fancy term for (electronically controlled) variable valve timing, or something like that. I forgot what the actual acronym stood for. BMW has valvetronic and other companies have some other terms as well.

And yes, I knew what CVT means and does.

And this is not a flame on Honda or its technologies, just wondering what's the big deal with VTEC. It's like cars that put in big bold letter on the boot that they have a V6 instead of the regular straight four. Or Audi's Quattro (and VW's 4motion) for all-wheel-drive; it's just a "cool" sounding term made by the car companies to hype their product. The exception may be diesel and racing-tuned cars. Turboed is a gray area.

I know I'm gonna get flamed or something for this... whatever.

BMW's version of VVT is call Double Vanos. Valvetronic is a technology that takes away throttle body.

Still don't get why you are comparing CVT to VTEC. They are totally two different things.

all the companies that know technology are getting variable valve lift....
why cause you can get more power out of the same engine by putting the redline at 8000rpm+.
if you take an engine w/out variable valve lift (VVL) like american engines the peak power is at about 4000-5000RPM why cuase after that the piston is not getting the it needs. now if you put VVL you can change the valve lift so the piston will be getting more O2.
thats why you can take the prm redline all the way up there.....

I personnally like the new Civic much better than the previous generation. The lights are large, but as a package the front and rear both look better to me. Not all that hyped about the switch to struts up front, but can understand the reasons.

Like I said in some other post, I know Honda has run out of design ideas(proof of that are the new bubble Civics damn taller than larger, CRV, Prelude, Accord Coupe with an ugly front fascia, Passport originally Isuzu of course, etc etc), but stealing Fords designs is a penalty!! Just look the 2002 CRV, that different front fascia wont fool me, damn that´s an Escape! Too late for imitations!! It might have technology but they should learn the best equation of styling/engineering.

the only thing that i feel make the 2001 civics look odd is that it is fuckin high. Espically the rear.

I think the sedans do not look that bad, although I like the 96-00 sedan the best of any civic. The 01 coupes and hatches are just plain ugly, I would not drive one, i'd just get an older one.
