Start by being really good at building them.....it always helps....then you need to get your name out there as a reputed builder.

Search the net, there are people that build models professionally, for a high fee, find some of them, look at their finished models.....then ask yourself if you can build something of that level of workmanship.....then go and start trying harder.....

Joey,

Be more confident, time and practice will help you improve......just be patient.....

You could do it if you really wanted to.

i know someone who does, but shes not in it for the money though. people who gets into this buisness only do it for fun, she does it so that she can build the kits without paying for it. ive had a few offers before, but refused cuz i only build them for myself and friends. plus i procrastinate too much, i wouldnt be able to finish it on time.

anyways the first and most important step is to build up a good reputation, show case you work on a website.

Is she single? Sounds like the perfect woman to me! :frog: :p :D :D  :sun: :silly2: :silly2: :silly2:

I know someone locally who builds models for a living. He charges between $500 and $1500 per model. He has quite a reputation though, as he`s built models for the likes of Tim Allen, and other well known people. He markets himself at car shows, where there are alot of guys who would like a model of their own special car.

i doubt it would be a good career to pursue..... i think of this as a hobby then a career...but there are some gifted ppl like P-MAN who can become a millionare by doing this :D

if u like cars and like building them, i suggest that you should go build real cars at like Tuning Garages!

Honestly, unless you have natural talent I can't think of anyone "young" being a pro modeler. Since it takes a lot of patience and experience to build great kits. But you would have to be able to MARKET yourself very well, since there aren't a lot of people who want a professionally built model of there car for the price it cost you. I would think of it more as a side job even if yo uare really good. Keep your main job and just work on the side for the money.

You would have to be very good at it.
People also dont know the amount of time that goes in to building one.
When you ask for $??? people think you are trying to rip them off

Don't forget that there are other ways to do model making as a profession, like technical models for wind tunnels (F1, Le Mans GT etc) or architecture models for houses etc, and then for movie making....... you just need to practice allot and be a little crazy......... everyone who does this for a living is a little crazy :D

If you're into building good models, then making models for people is well and good.

If you're really keen, and have a good imagination, you could easily get into TV/ movies. Try and get hold of some set designers in your local area, and see what you can do. Maybe that they want some items made up for backgrounds on a TV show, then don't need to be that critically correct, or maybe some other close-up work, which would need to be better.

Also remember, you build mostly 'clean' models now. For movie work, etc., they would need to be weathered, or 'built in motion' and stuff.

Try it, it's a lot of fun. You'll start it as a sideline/ part of your hobby, but it could become an occupation if you get the right contacts and stuff.
