had an idea...

Well, thanks to slowCRXinPitt I have located the body panels I need to fix the EX's body. Now since the CRX's body isn't in the greatest shape I had this idea...

fix the EX body rot and mod the body (shaved emblems, side trim, rear door handles, and trunk lock/reflector)
swap in the CRX dash (after it's painted of course)
pull the D15 out of the CRX
put the EX tranny on it after I change the gear oil in it
get MPFI out of another EX (I have a source) and put it on the D15
slam it back into the EX
pick up a set of head/tail lights for it.

I could, in theory, have it running and back on the road by summer

I'm tossing it around in my head and I'm thinking maybe it should be the way to go, I've not distroyed anything on the EX, or at least nothing that I cannot replace.

as far as the body goes it'll be a little less work than replacing the body panels and slapping bondo on the CRX... then I'll have something custom to show for all of the work... plus the EX has a clear title.

you sir, sound like my kinda pal. heres whats happening in the Big Easy:

right now i have three hatches:
RED 90 STD hatch with B16 swap and all sorts of other stuff, but its totaled, and the insurance company made it a salvage title.
BLUE 90 STD hatch, all stock, with a sorta funky interior and a busted headlight and side mirror, no body damage, and runs good. clean title
BLUE 89 DX automatic hatch, all stock, busted motor, no taillights

heres the master plan:

the blue STD is supposed to be for my little sister, but she hates driving a manual, my plan is to take the busted engine outta the DX, and put the STDs motor into it. thus making it a very very slow car for my 16 year old sister to drive. ill fix whatever isnt kosher on it, and take whatever i need for it from the blue STD. phase one complete.

then i proceed to take everything that isnt the sheet metal off of the blue STD, including but not limited to every wire and nut outta the engine bay, and put my combat front, combat 2 back, and feelz sides and door caps on it. from there itll have its antenna, rain gutters, and emblems shaved off, as well as molded in 97 prelude tails i have lying around gathering dust. once the body is super clean and straight, its getting sprayed championship white, with a CF hood, the projectors from the totalled car, and CRX corners to match them (we've all seen the black housing projectors and matching corners for the CRX) then the fun starts. end phase 2.

next ill be wrapping my whole interior in solid matte black vinyl. i have Si door panels, so they should look nice in solid black with the inserts done in red suede. the GSR console will also be wrapped in one piece of black vinyl, so instead of three seperate pieces, itll look like one. the armrest in red suede too. while im doing that, my recaros that are in the totalled car will be getting done in solid red suede (ala nsx-r), and the back seat to match. all the interior will be done by me, but the seats are beyond my sewing skills. end phase 3.

once the car is totally dope inside and out, the greasy stuff starts. ill pull all of the suspension from my totalled car, which is already totally awesome. 4 wheel discs from a CRX Si, all energy suspension bushings, tokico blues with skunk2 coilovers, neuspeed bars all over the place, and of course, the mighty b16 with S1 tranny. then ill have to do all the rice boy stuff like loom the wires, and red vacuum hoses and whatever. end of mission

so as you can see, im totally insane, but it helps that i work at a performance shop, have ASE certifications, and three 4g civics. should be finished when March rolls around. damn what am i getting into, and why am i spending 2000 bucks in parts alone on a car that isnt even worth that much to the insurance company???

I am currently in the process of shaving the rear handles and the door moldings and the trunk reflector it is a hell of a job. The door handles have a slight dip in the middle that I had never saw before. But it is coming along and i have one side almost complete, I will post pics this week maybe, but it is in primer, but hella clean looking without the moldings and door handles.

I've got a metal filler panels cut for the rear door handle holes as well as the trunk. basically bondo blending is all I'll have to do after I tack them in.
