Sorry if this has been asked already--
My '99 Cougar that I just purchased is having serious starting problems. It just won't start sometimes--four or five times now--once it wouldn't start for three days--been to the Ford dealer, they replaced some air sensor and checked that windshield switch problem----didn't start the next morning!!!! This is really frustrating. It there something else I should know about.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Drew

When you say not starting, please clarify if the engine turns over, or turns over and the theft light is flashing, anything else?
Please give good detail about ALL the conditions present and I will help you in any way.
Good Luck

I had same problem. Turned key and got nothing. Gears shift were frozen in place. Called Automobile club and got car started with boost twice. Battery was good and had a good charge. Dealer took 5 days to find problem and fix. Replaced starter then said it still would not work. After 5 days and $435.00 they said it was fixed. It was reported to be a loose wire leading into the fuse box under the dash board. They said they only found it by tracing all the wiring and by consulting with technicians at ford headoffice. This was most expensive loose wire I have ever heard of.

mines manuel tho, and the clutch sensor wasnt being pushed when the clutch was in so it wouldnt electrically start, itd bumpstart and run so it wasnt the battery or something... hope this helps for future problems

could be the alternator, or once for me it was the fuse for the charging system... 5 bucks to my local mechanic and ten mins and a good boost and i was good to go...
