i think the audiobahn's are nice, especaillyu mounted backwards.:)

turbcivic
01-24-2003, 05:35 PM
Kicker L7s=SPL, square and we all know it is not cool to be square:D
Flames=IMO, gay, i don't like them but that is just me
Kappa=Great SQ, not so high on SPL but sound great and clear

My vote is for Kappas.

Jetts
01-24-2003, 05:37 PM
im leaning towards the kappa or the L7's but i cant chose

Jetts
01-24-2003, 05:47 PM
im not like a sub expert but what is db and sb and spl?
kinda stupid questions but i have no clue what they are

strodda
01-24-2003, 06:01 PM
db stands for decibels. sq-sound quality, and spl-sound pressure level.. i think, i could just be makin shit up:rolleyes:

id im gonna agree with turbo, go for the perfects. i dont like kicker, no reason. and the flames are for people who dont know or give a shit about quality.... all they know is they want it real damn loud.

turbcivic
01-24-2003, 06:53 PM
The flames aren't even that loud. I am one of those people that goes for loud look at my sig. and that is with two viper 12.2s that are SQ.

Jetts
01-24-2003, 07:02 PM
yea the kappa perfects are cheaper but i like the square design wasnt a big fan of audiobahn but that was my other choice

then just go for the l7's. if you wanna get real crazy, try the new xplod's. you can go boomin with octagons. or maybe even some triangular bazookas... companies and their dumbass gimmicks, when will it ever end.

PaulD
01-25-2003, 10:36 PM
it won't ..... every manufacturer tries to get a leg up on the competition, so you will always see some crazy stuff - as they attempt to make their stuff look different than everyone elses.

Jetts
01-26-2003, 12:45 AM
they make octagon subs?
so u are saying kicker square subs are just a gimmic not worth it?

Gusto222
01-26-2003, 03:08 AM
Squares are nice.. but dont handle that much juice..
Flames are lame... PUSH alot of air but dont make alot of sound.. if u knwo what i mean... I listened to there demo car @ carlisle '02 -- w/ like 6-18z -- & IT moved alot of air.. but u didnt hear alot of bass...
Tha PERFECTS - Ive heard them a couple times.. a kid i yusta knwo had 2-12z int ha back a 96 stang.. & it HIT pretty damn hard.. & really clean.. i would recommend them outta tha 3 choices..

~~~~~~~
i have a pic of tha install.. but for sum reason it wont let me psot it-- even though its belwo 10kb
strodda
01-26-2003, 03:10 AM
well its actually a pentagon, but you get the idea. just like paulD said, its a bunch of fluff. any person out there that doesnt know shit about subs will see the xplod's and think, wow thats cool looking, and buy them. and thats exactly what they want people to do. if youre not too stuck on the shape of the kickers, go for the perfects
btw, here they are
those two statememnt don't go together ..... pushing lots of air is what bass is all about. Making bass is just like making HP - it's the diameter of the woofer times distance it travels up and down (like HP is a function of bore X displacement). It might have not had a subsonic filter, and most of the sound was below what you could here.
Jetts
01-26-2003, 12:28 PM
yea i want kappa perfects cause my friend just bought 2 12's and put them in his truck and omg im in love!!!!
like i dont remember the watt max for the 10's but i think it is like 1100watts so what kinda wattage should i run like 600apeice or what and what are some good amps?
PaulD
01-26-2003, 01:21 PM
kappa's are power hungry ......... go with a class D amp, cuz you're gonna need like 1000 watts or more to get them pounding.
Jetts
01-26-2003, 02:47 PM
1000 apeice?
and who makes class D
PaulD
01-26-2003, 03:47 PM
sorry, I meant 1000 total for the 2 ..........
lets see, JBL makes the 1200.1 ........ 1400+ watts
DEI makes a few models
and I know there are others - maybe this would be a sticky topic, one for subs nd one for amps, so you you guys would see your choices.
Jetts
01-26-2003, 03:52 PM
well hook it up like that mr. moderator cause it says i cant i would appreciate it if u would
are the kappas underrated cause theyre rated at 350wrms? usually, to be safe, i just match the amp/subs rms's. right now im actually underpowering 800 to 1000w/pair. is it safe to use an overpowering amp as long as you adjust the gains properly? or will a hard hit still push too much power
PaulD
01-26-2003, 11:27 PM
it really depends on what kind of music you listen to. If the bass is heavy, electronically made tones - you might want to be careful about overpowering it. The reason is because the average power in that type of music is much higher.
Jetts
01-26-2003, 11:31 PM
well i listen to rap, break beats, drum and bass
strodda
01-27-2003, 04:30 PM
then you should think about getting maybe a 600 or 700max rms amp for the pair. since your music will push them to the max, you might want to underpower them. im sure infinity makes high quality subs, but its better to be safe. try the jbl 600.1bp, that puts out 600wrms@2ohms.
Jetts
01-27-2003, 04:46 PM
sweet thx guys u are a great help i dont know much about system stats i just know how to install them.... this question has been asked before but what is better ported or sealed?
strodda
01-27-2003, 06:00 PM
depends what you want. for the tightest more accurate bass, a sealed box is better. bandpass' are for specifically for loudness. and in the middle are ported boxes, which i prefer. i had a sealed, but gave it to a friend and got a ported box. if you decide on getting a ported box, find one with rectangular ports, not the normal circular... it creates less air turbulence. if i stand and listen, i cant even hear any, all i hear and feel is bass.
heres what i mean by getting a rectangular port
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/809075volfportedbox1.jpg
Jetts
01-27-2003, 06:37 PM
is that your box?
where did u get it?
PaulD
01-27-2003, 07:39 PM
a bandpass is really just a higher order ported box
strodda
01-27-2003, 09:09 PM
there was something going on at the downtown convention center, it was kinda like a fancy fleemarket. but its just a box, so i wasnt too worried about buying it from them. got it for $40
Jetts
01-27-2003, 10:46 PM
sweet i like this box
strodda
01-27-2003, 11:38 PM
what kind of box did you want to get? i cant tell for sure, since thats a pic of the back, but im assuming its a pair of single bandpass boxes.
heres an auction for the box i have. dual 12" slot ported box (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3002657801&category=14945)
Jetts
strodda
01-27-2003, 11:58 PM
i didnt see any, but the seller is auctioning a pair of 10's with a box just like that, so he must have them. just email, and ask if they can sell the box separetly.
What about a Adire Bramah 10, or two ED e10k's?
Jetts
02-02-2003, 06:11 PM
what those?
strodda
02-02-2003, 08:45 PM
well, bramah is a model of sub that adire makes. that other one im assuming is a sub too, but i dont know what company it is.
PaulD
02-02-2003, 09:05 PM
ED = Elemental Designs (I am assuming)
Jetts
02-02-2003, 09:11 PM
never heard of either of them
Deakins
02-03-2003, 12:09 PM
Bramah 10: Probably the best 10" for the price. 0.35 - 0.85 sealed, 0.75 to 1.25 @ 35 Hz ported. The W7 is probably the only sub with more output and better SQ.
e10k: Requier less power, but less output and not quite as good SQ. 0.3 - 0.5 sealed, 0.8 - 1.5 @ 28Hz ported. ED sells them for $125, and $225 for two.
Jetts
02-03-2003, 12:12 PM
and i can get them in the us?
Deakins
02-03-2003, 12:55 PM
Yes, they are both US based companys.
News flash, every other spl comp. out there are trying to get those brahmas. I went to order two 12's and guess what, they are one back order.
PaulD
02-03-2003, 07:23 PM
the brahmas got a huge jump in popularity when Richard Clark agreed to test them, so they could be compared to the W7 series from JL Audio. They certainly look the part of a top notch sub, and measure out very well in real world tests. Don't expect them to be "available right away" any time soon.
Jetts
02-03-2003, 10:51 PM
yea i got time to wait but i think i will still go with the infinity kappa perfects
GSteg
02-04-2003, 11:12 PM
if you plan to get the kappas, don't send it over 350 watts RMS. infinity is serious when they rate their power handling. anymore than that continuously, they will blow.
as for ED (particullary the K-series), if you have questions or concern, i'll be glad to help out. i own the k-series and can give you whatever info you need. price of the infinity, but more power handling and sound quality. i have mine hooked up to a DEI 1100D amp wired to 2ohm (about 800 watts RMS).
Jetts
02-04-2003, 11:42 PM
so ed good where i get them and are those the ones on backorder?
ED is a great company. staff members are limited, but for the work they put into, customer service is top-notch. the K-series were on preorder, but they are now shipping (has been since a month ago). if you want, you can preorder on the Nine.1 amp for $240 plus shipping. shipping will start around March 10th or so i heard (from Ben).
309x1@4ohm
509x1@2ohm
1009x1@1ohm
18db octave subsonic filter (variable 15-50hz)
12dB octave LP filter (variable 50-250hz).
3 years direct manufactor warranty
strappable (2 strapped together to produce about 2500x1@2ohm)
don't let the ratings fools you though. they are underrated by about 200 watts or so. for the price, they are hard to beat, even the almighty bang for the buck JBL 1200.1 doesn't stand a change when it comes to featrues and quality. the amp's price will be back up to about $285 after preorder.
--------------------------------------------------
if you buy 2 K-series, you get 10% off (they already calculated it on the order page). for more info, visit www.edesignaudio.com
