It's going to drive me to insanity...

I learning more and more about cars, yet I have a problem I just can't figure out.

first off the engine is a 1986 5.0 302 Ford Mustang engine. The idle on it just won't go down, it's feul injected, and I have tried messing with the idle screw but it wont slow it down. I checked over many things that could be causing it and have come up with nothing. Do you think it could be a blown gasket on the air intake manafold? I dont know if that would cause the idle to spike like that, but i put my hand over the air intake and it slowed the idle down, so i figure it's getting too much air. I'm just wondering if a blown gasket on the air intake manafold would cause the high idle.

Well, it sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. If it were the head gasket the engine would also overheat, is it overheating? I remember hearing some where that the older Cougars had head gasket problems, not sure though.

hey, i actually just got back in from messing with it. My car doesnt over heat and remember its a 302, not original to the car. But i started the car and put my head near the engine and i can hear like air sucking in somewhere, I looked all over and i can find the leak. I got a repair manual on its way and im thinking of jsut taking the intake manafold off and replacing all those gaskets anyway, because i also have a moister problem, while im doing that ill look closer for the leak once i get all the blind spots out of the way. Someone sugested I replace the uhh sensor on top of the throttle body (cant think of what its called) and set it to .95 volts, but i have no idea wha that means, and also suggested i replace some valves and sparkplugs and sparkplug wires.

Yep, it's a Vacuum leak. ;)
