beautiful, muscular classic lines. and the best engines overall. it's tough to beat the style of a first gen camaroSS convertible. black or white with red leather interior, man ud own the ladies. lol

Is this a trick question?!?

1st gen...hands down. Everything else seems...lacking.

2nd Generation, 1979 model to be exact the rest I dont like much.

I would say 4th generation, but the Z28 was lacking style. SS helped with the hood scoop but its still a little plain jane.

In a CRX? Probably tear it apart hehehe J/K.

I voted 1st Generation, nothing beat that damn ZL1 & the Baldwins & Yenkos. I would give a vote to the 3rd gen if I could.

I myself like 3rd generation camaros best. Tell me, which generation would this one be a part of. I've always thought it was 4th, because of the taillight design similarity.

I drive a 4th, but voted 1st. The 69 Z/28 with RS peekabo lights is my favorite.

I voted for first, because I have a 4th, but would like to have a 1st as well.

Tman2093, the pic that you posted is of a fourth generation Camaro, 93-02 are the years that encompass that generation. It just underwent a face lift in 98.

no doubt about it, the older ones are the best. i want a yellow, black striped 1969 Z28, fully restored to original and another 1969 yellow, black striped but modern style, modern V8, tuned, lowered, big alloys etc so i can have best of both!! (one day)

Anywayyyys , i've always loved the ole 1rst gens but unfortunately i dont have the money for one right now :/. I think the 3rd gen however is the best looker out of all of them :)

IMHO, 1st gen's technology is too old. Great styling (DeLorean-esque of the 60's).

3rd gen simply reminds me of all the a55holes in high school who's dads bought them an IROCZ & they'd cruise around looking for people to beat with baseball bats.

4th gen is just awkward. The rear's styling doesn't match the front, the windows where the glass meets the weatherstripping wear out like the 3G, and the engine is crammed so far into the compartment that working on them is a beeotch.

I have a 99 SS but I love the 69 cause of its badass looks. Plus it was that body style for only one year. Id trade my 99 for a 69 with a bigblock anyday. :D

That is funny, I was thinking the same thing, in fact out of 300 ppl in my (small) high school their were 12 guys who had them and they were all pricks.

BigJustinZ28
03-27-2003, 07:27 AM
maybe then 3rd gen owners were pricks but now the kids who have bought them 2nd hand all seem pretty nice ,i have one and everyone I know who has one loves them and none of them seem arrogant , and most of them bought them themselves. I remember when i was a child seeing the 3rd gens running around and I always thought they looked so cool and I feel almost privlidged to own one now that is in such great shape , but then again this story mirrors alot of peoples :). Oh yea I used to watch too much knight rider too hehe (i have an 84 trans am as well , girlfriend has commandeered it tho , not in as good shape as my z28 but its the perfect model for a KR conversion hehe , maybe one day)

i have to go with the 3rd generation camaro. just looks the meanest of them all and quite possibly the easiest camaro to build. i mean you can run low 13's for under $5k

How much does that engine alone cost you?

BlkCamaroSS
04-19-2003, 04:57 PM
I know you could probably find one out of a wrecked F-body or Vette for less than $5k...

-The Stig-
04-19-2003, 06:38 PM
you can swap in a LT1 out of a wrecked 4th gen or Vette for about 1800-2200 w/computer.

Or you can build the current motor.

Vortec TBI Coversion Kit $1200
Comes with:
Vortech Heads complete with Valves and springs
Aluminum TBI intake manifold
Complete gasket set
Spark Plugs
Head/Intake bolts
Exhaust manifold and EGR heat tube which allows you to retain your emmision controls.

Good for 30 horsepower.

Edelbrock Performer Plus CamKit for '400ci $150. Yeah, I know it says for 400ci but its only a camshaft, it doesnt know its going into a 350.
Duration Intake 214 Exhaust 214 Max lift .442 Exhause .442

Still 50 statelegal, and probably good for another 20 horsepower.

Edelbrock Headers $320-350
Good for probably another 20 horsepower.

That right there is only $1700, and gains you nearly 70 horsepower... Say add another $300 for a nice new gear ratio for the rear like a 3.73 ratio. Thats $2000, that should be enough to get you into the high 13's and consistant low 14's.

Theoretically speaking that is. :D

Gotta love Chevy... so cheap to go much faster.

Spend another say, $400-600 on a fresh rebuild on the motor. And you can attain all the horsepower the motor gave stock plus all the goodies you just added on.

And since you are rebuilding, perfect time to think about stroking the motor. That can only improve performance.

Eagle makes a 383 Stroker kit for $1200, comes with all that you would need for a Stroker upgrade. That should gain you some impressive Horsepower gains not to mention mad torque too.

Along with the 64cc Head, it should have a 9.7:1 Compression ratio. Still street friendly. This should put the car deep into the 13 second area.

So far the damage is $2300 for just a fresh rebuild and gears or $3200 for the stroker kit and gears.

Hypothetically speaking... that should make for sweet car.

Then theres going to a TPI setup... thats basically just another intake but all the rest of the goodies still apply.

Ok, enough from me. :D

In 67 there was no Z28 model. Z28 was orginally an RPO code. If you ordered a Camaro with RPO Z28 it had the 302, suspension, etc. It wasn't till 68 that Z28 became a model.

RPO stands for Regular Production Order. Like the 98 and up Camaros with RPO Y2Y, are SS Camaros. :)

Oh, I voted for 4th gens. It has one of the best engines ever with the LS1 (especally the 01-02 LS1's), it is the best handling Camaro stock, and adding RPO 1LE to a 4th gen gets you basically a race car.

BigJustinZ28
04-20-2003, 09:45 AM
ordering 1LE on any camaro with that code basically gave you a race car for that production year , including even the third gens :)

AHHH, Nostalgia!
If you weren't a teenager during the muscle car era, you might not understand it!
I had a 69 350 ci. sporting a Pearl White paint that glowed.
Add to that a custom Black Lace overlay instead of the standard stripes
The Black & White Houndstooth interior really set it off.
Keystone mag wheels rounded it out. No one had a sharper car!
I get bummed when I think about totaling it....

BUT, I now have a 69 Charger w / 87,000 original miles sitting around for ten years now. Really need some time to restore it right.

1st generation is, by far, the best ones.
Although the 91-92 Z28s were real nice.
(The 4th generation are just plain blah.)

PS- But 4th gens do haul some butt, tho!

Hey all, I'm new to this forum. :grinno: First post. I think you can figure out from my name what my vote is. First Generation. Ive got a 67 RS/SS with a built 454 and turbo 400. This is my second First gen, my first was a 69. I like all the others, but my preference is always first gen.

The first generations look awesome. But,as far as stock performance goes, they lack.Yes alot of them have tremendous horsepower and torque.Yes,the ZL1 is awesome until about 125,that's where the newer 4 gen's come in.I've always liked the older camaros, their sound, style, ect. But for stock speed,4gen rules.
