loss of all power while driving last night

Last night I was on my way home from work, driving about 55mph and all of the sudden my engine went dead and my lights, radio...etc... went dead as well. I was able to pull over to the side of the road and start her back up though. What the hell caused that? Any input is appreciated.

....had the same thing happen to me......turned out to be a defective alternator (new) that was just installed weeks before......was replaced and has been running fine since

yea that sounds like the alternator.

i dont know what it could be honestly...it doesnt sound like the alternator, because if the alternator quit, you would be driving on nothing but the power of the battery in the car, and if you lost power to everything, that would have ment the battery ran out of power, and since you had enough power to start the car the battery couldnt have been dead....thus..i doubt the culprit is the alt.you might want to check the connections on your battery posts

Could be aliens, its a common thing to happen when aliens are around with their spaceships. They prolly just flew by and disturbed your car's electronics.

Or it was a electro-magnetic pulse like the use to kill the robots near the end of The Matrix.......hehehehhe.... i doubt its the cold that caused you to stall out...

considering you got it to start back up and continue running it shouldn't have been the alt. or a bad/dead battery... like was said earlier check to make sure the terminals are on tight... and clean... considering you lost radio and lights it not likely its engine mechanicals... btw what part of pitts are you in? i'm living in downtown right by pointpark and the 5th ave. building

Okay, this happened to me, what my problem was my ground from my battery got disconnected on the engine side, so it was not grounded and i had all the same symptoms...... try and see if it was that!

yeah that happens in the weather we're having here... actually my dad's car did about 2 weeks ago... but i don't think that would have killed his radio and lights... it shoulda stalled out like a clogged fuel fliter type deal if that were the case... it sounds more like loose wire type of deal in my opinion... and the other part of the frozen line... he didn't warm it up at all... it shut off and then he restarted... its a good suggestion and likely to happen considering the weather but i'd doubt its the cause just my .02
