We reached the topic about sticker turns into yellow in another thread. I think we should start a new thread about this.
we have some inputs here saying put the decals under the sun can fade the yellowdish out.
So far, I suppose it is my room temperature not cool enough causing the sticker to turn yellow......
so what is the procedure?
1. let the decals directly shined by the sun?
2. put a white a4 paper on the decals and then shined by the sun?
3. put the decals under a lamp? if does, how many watts light bulb? 20W/40W/60W?
and the outcome:
A. Will it damage the decals?
B. Will it fade other color out as well?
please help, this can really solve many guys here about the decals turn old problem.
:flash:
jay, may I suggest if we can put this in the faq as well? thanks.

The only decals that yellowed on me were made by DMC, everything else looks great still.

I have had older Tamiya decals yellow on me and I stuck them taped to the window for 2-3 days and they improved greatly with no fading of other colors. Just make sure the window doesn't have a moisture problem.

actually, i mean the white part of stickers will turn old (yellow) when time goes......and we are saying whether sunlight can fade the yellow out and make the sticker white again.
:)
sorry that I make confusion here.

They should be Ok when on the car because the problem is caused by the acid content of the backing paper. You notice most newer decals have a slight blue tint to the paper, decals on the blue paper should never yellow.

First of all, it drives me nuts reading "stickers" for decals, but I'll get over it.;) It's the clear carrier film that yellows, and it's easily removed by ultraviolet light...namely sunlight.
Very carefully tape the decal sheet facing outwards onto a window that does not have moisture/fog/condensation issues. Namely a dry window. After a couple of days the sunlight should have bleached the yellow out of the carrier film on the decals.

Ok, one thing, your modeling desk is a no-smoking area, especially around decals, the smoke attacks them and makes them shrink, curl, yellow....ect.
Just thought I would let you know...

I have read that it's the acidity of the backing paper that causes yellowing. Once the decals are removed from the paper and applied they don't yellow over time... maybe they go brittle, but not yellow.
They should try printing decals on acid-free paper, sort of like the backing boards we use for comics.
