I go to college about 400 miles away from my house, and needless to say do a little speeding now and then:D.
I'm looking for some feedback as to what kind of radar detector i should get. Not looking to pay 200 bucks for one though, so keep the suggestions realistic.
Thanks

Not willing to pay $200? lol, then go to radio shack, they have them for $40.
Until you change your mind, I wont give my opinion.

you might be able to pick up a used valentine one on ebay for $250, but no less. They are the best on the market and cost 400 new.

Just dont speed. HA! who am I kidding!!
Truth is, it's getting harder to beat the fuzz, because of their laser detectors. If it's legal for your state, get a radar detector/jammer.

Technically, the jammers/detectors are not illegal. The FCC does not regulate that frequency.

It doesn't matter anyhow. Radar Jammers don't work, the real ones would take up your entire frickin' trunk. I wouls say just don't speed, but we all know that ain't happening. I would only buy the Valentine if I were buying one.

I got a Cobra radar detector for about $100 from Incredible Universe (now Fry's Electronics owned by Tandy Corp. who owns Radio Shack). Got it 7 years ago, haven't been pulled over for speeding since :D Not that a Neon goes that fast but ya know..........:)

the reason that i'm afraid of spending so much is i dont know how the technology's advancing and i dont wanna buy a v1 and turn around and have to buy something else next year because the cops came out with something new

in browsing ebay i found a v1 1.7 that looks appealing, i checked the serial on valentine's website and an upgrade would cost like $200
what do you think about the 1.7? or should i look for a used 1.8?

The name Valentine has been mentioned for good reason. Its the best out there. And like most things, you get what you pay for.

i read a pretty good test on this, and it worked...
it scrambles the first shot they get at you and gets you a warning signal... by the time the radar gun gets you, you'll have slowed down...
it was tested in some mustang mag i was reading, and it worked pretty well...

My personal two cents is that if you are smart about it, you won't get caught. Those of you who know me are well aware of my extensive history of high speed driving, racing, and in one incident, crashing. And I've never even been so much as pulled over for speeding (and I've never used a radar detector). To reiterate, here's my take home message: be smart about it, and you won't get caught.

If the cops try to one up the public, mike introduces a new technology that screws teh fuzz. then you send in your V1 and it gets updated with all the new technology.

I have also see an actual radar jammer used by the military and the thing is freaging huge. There is no way they could pack that into something that small. Well yet anyhow. I also have friends that can attest to the fact they don't work.
