Something different..Golf MK1

hey guys..

This is another project im currently working on,
its the Tamiya VW Golf Group 2 Racing. I dont know
if this kit is reissued recently or not, but this particular
kit i have is NOT a reissue, its actually the first mold,
the instruction manual is dated 1978. It actually has a
electric motor inside!! I found this kit in
one of the older hobby shops I goto. Its so old, the decal
sheet with white decals is a bit yellow..or is it supposed
to look that way?? :confused:

Anyways..here it is fresh from painting,

paint: body-testors baby blue (my 2nd attempt using this brand of paint, im impressed once agian, im usually a tamiya man!)
rims- gunmetal

mods: added side skirts
-maybe S2000 dashboard + door panels (since interior detail isnt that great)

what do u guys think??

thanks for the scan so quickly. Sorry to see it turns yellow. I think the numbers decal and some checking flag decals are still useable......personally I think Hasegawa makes better quality decal than Tamiya. Tamiya decals turns out yellowdish pretty fast , after open the box, it will turn unwhite after few months......while Hasegawa can keep over 2 years.

Great work so far.

I've bought the re-issue of the kit, and I agree it's not that great by today's standards, but for the time it must've been state of the art - hard to imagine!

I think that earlier Tamiya decals 'yellow' quicker, but they must've changed the way they produce them as I've got kits from well over 2 years, and the decals are fine.

I'm thinking about converting mine into a road version, so I can have a Mk1, 2, 3 & 4 Golf.

Leave the decal sheet in sunlight for a few days and maybe the yellow will go away. :)

may i ask what chemistry thing is working on this method? So far, I feel it was my room temperature which was not cool enough causing the sticker to turn yellow......

so what is the procedure?

1. let the sticker directly shined by the sun?
2. put a white a4 paper on the sticker and then shined by the sun?
3. put the sticker under a lamp? if does, how many watts light bulb? 20W/40W/60W?

please help, this can really solve my old sticker problem. :licker:

um..are u guys serious about putting it into the sunlight?? wont it make it even worse and fade???

I read in SAE about doing this, apparently the sunlight will bleach the yellowness out of it and make it white/clear again, it shouldn't fade it.
I haven't tried it though so can't comment further than that.
