Help (sorry)

I said in a thread before that I wanted to get started with this model thing. Would it be a good idea to just get a few model kits and build them the normal way so I get used to it before diving into all the fancy stuff and making them look life-like? I know you guys think I am an idiot, but all this is new to me.

I am doing the same thing, I'm building some easy kits so I can have expierance and build my tamiya zexel skyline, It's a good thing you're doing, start out with something simple, like a curbside kit (kit with no engine)

Trust me, no-one here thinks you're an idiot ;)

Get out to your nearest HobbyShop and buy some of the great books on the hobby, they will help you allot and inspire you to build. They will tell you what tools to get and allot of very helpful tips. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions. I notice you live in Hazleton, I am down in Mechanicsburg by Harrisburg so maybe you could give me a call if you can afford it.

I just finished my firs model, Tamiya 300zx, and the enigine isn't the hard part at least on street cars. Actually the whoule 300zx model is pretty straight forward. I did make a few rookie mistakes but I'm pretty happy with the outcome and have learned a few things from it.

So I would just say get a good street car with the engine and get your skills up first, then move to race cars and bigger more complicated models.

Seriously, this hobby is all about development of technique. If you're starting from zero, your first kit will suck, your second will suck slightly less, and the third will be halfway decent. I've got some sucky models around somewhere to prove it! :o

But that doesn't mean those aren't fun to build. ;) It also doesn't mean it's cheap or easy, either. If you actually enjoy the hobby and can get the basics under your belt (hint: read the FAQ thread ;)), you'll be turning kits out like a pro in no time.

And I agree, it is sound advice to start on a less expansive (edit: or expensive ;)) kit that is 'expendable,' as it will probably become your "practice" car. ;)

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I didn;t even realize anyone posted on this. Thanks for all your help. I have a pretty basic 1964 GTO 2 in 1 model kit. It needs to be painted, so maybe I will hold that off for a while. I have the basics to start with: an airbrush (I think it is broken), paint, glue... 935k3, it would be cool if you could give me your e-mail and I will e-mail you and you can help me out a little (if you don't mind). This is a VERY good kit to start out with, If you pay attention to the FAQ here, your model should come out perfect, I've built this kit before when I was a hardcore newbie, and if I read the FAQ before making the kit, it would'ev come out perfect, so... PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE FAQ!!! :)

And another thing, don't be shy to post anything here, we're all here to hep each other out, so ask anything you want! :flash:

Thanks for the help. Can someone give me a good site with models of every skill level. The hobby shops around here don't have to much. I am going to try to get my airbrush working and set up a little shop for me to get started. I hope everything goes okay. :D
