Skyline R34 VS Diablo??

I saw this R34 Skyline racing a Diablo in a clip.
The Skyline R34 looked like it had the Lauch and the SPEED too.
This Skyline Looks heavly modded. BUT can a R34 really win a Diablo if BOTH were stock??

In a 1/4 mile not sure. It would be close. Remember the Diablo has an engine over twice it's size and costs a whole lot more. Either way it would be close.
In overall top speed the Diablo will kill it.

I think "kill" is putting it lightly :D
I think the diablo might have a slight upper hand around a track... But it would be up to the drivers.

My 2 clams worth:
The quarter: close call...cud go either way although the Diablo's really long ratio - 3rd gear up to 2OOkph - cud make the difference.
Top speed: the GTR's owner wud hv to dig a really big grave for himself and his GTR!
Around the track: assuming drivers are of the same skill, the GTR wud whup the Diablo especially on narrow and winding tracks. Hell, the GTR holds the record - has it been broken?- around the Nur anyway!
Modded: the Diablo owner wud be wondering why oh why had he spent so much for a car to be trashed around by a Japanese car. Seen JGTCC? I rest my case! And :flipa: your big ass Mr Diablo!

If I am not mistaken the GTR does not hold the record for the "Ring". The last two cars to do so were both Porsche one being a Gembella and the other being Ruf. I think the Gembella currently holds the record (I am not sure, but you may want to check me on that ).

Is this a fair comparison??. Probably not. The Diablo that is running JGTC is not very competitive. Their problem is not necessarily the car itself but the amount tunning and R&D available. Example, when is the last time you just popped down to the local "go fast" shop and picked up a set of headers for you Diablo?????? The GTR is a Japanese car, racing in Japan, and has been developed for racing for the better part of 15 years if not more. There are massive amounts of data and parts for this car. Furthemore, you have numerous teams running the same car which allows for greater racing knowledge and experience.

The Diablo team is called the "NOMAD DIABLO JGT1". That "Yellow Corn Diablo Team" your referring to is actually the "Yellow Corn McLaren GTR" team. Yes, a Mclaren GTR, perhaps one of the greatest race/road/cars ever developed, maybe even still the greatest.
I'll be honest with everyone, I do not care what Skyline, Supra, or whatever else you have with turbos, superchargers, rockets, missles, etc. on it, I would take that Mclaren over any other car in the world. The only downside is it is no longer produced, for that reason alone I may go with a Lambo.

and how much is an exh for that mclaren? gold plated isn't cheap..
i'd rather have something i can drive every day affordably...
the jgtc... Japanese Grand Touring Car Championship...
i wonder why the "imports" don't do that well..
there's tuners out there for the diablo, but the cost is astronomical...
and it depends on which class it runs in... gt300 or gt500...
the vipers are in gt300... so go figure...

Your are right, I was just trying to make a point. There are tuners for Diablo's but they are a lot less available in relation to those tuners for most Japanese built imports.
Everyday affordability is a justified concern. Knowing myself thought if I had a chance to own a Diablo or Murci. I would drive it a few times a week and drive my '83 S-10 every other day and be really happy.
As far as I know the imports (in this case the Vipers, Moseler, Lambo, etc.) do not do as well because they do not have factory support. The NSX's, GTR's, Supra's, have factory factory support. And of course as we know more often than not factory supported cars tend to perform better. Also I have read people ask why the Vipers, Corvette, etc. are racing in the 300bhp category. Again this is because they are not considered factory supported and are running restrictors (at least this is what I have read).

much agreed...
i've wondered about the hp numbers alot... i don't know that hp numbers are actually 300 and 500, but i would assume they're close... i thought i read some where that the numbers are closer to being just numbers and hp is higher... maybe i'm wrong...
but i'm sure that if you limited a car like the viper (which has 450hp stock) to 300 hp, it would be very non-competitive...

As far as I know the GT300 and GT500 class does represent the hp numbers. Superstreet magazine had a few issues that covered the Silvia, MRS, and NSX as well as a little about the series and that is what they stated. One point that the brought to light is the Silvia, WRX, MRS, etc. are making 300bhp using turbo's, no problem right. However, what is amazing is that the NSX is making 500bhp in 3.5L NA form that is amazing!!!!
By the way it will be on Speed Vision tonight at 900PM EST I believe for a hour and half.

If I am not mistaken the GTR does not hold the record for the "Ring".
If I am not mistaken the GTR still holds the record for production car. Gembala and Ruf are not production cars. But then again, I am old, so I cud be wrong!:)
Is this a fair comparison??. Probably not. The Diablo that is running JGTC is not very competitive.
Well, I was comparing a modded GTR to a modded Diablo. That's the whole point. What can I do if a Diablo is much harder to mod and to make it competetive. It just means that the GTR is a much better car in modded form, isn't it?
The Diablo team is called the "NOMAD DIABLO JGT1". That "Yellow Corn Diablo Team" your referring to is actually the "Yellow Corn McLaren GTR" team.
Hey, thanks for correcting me! I get confused sometimes!:p But whatever it is, the GTR spanks both team in the JGTCC. If someone gonna gimme a McLaren or a GTR wud I take the McLaren? Sure I wud! It wud look good beside my GTR!:D

I do believe Gemballa maybe considered an aftermarket tuner. However, Ruf are an actually car manufact. All of their cars are indeed registered as Ruf's, they have their own VIN and Part numbers. Where as as Gemballa actually use the originaly VIN and chasis number as it was given when it rolled off of Porsche's line.
As far as JGTC goes, you are correct the Lambo does get walked pretty much every race. In fact I did not even see it racing last night. As for the Mclarens they looked pretty good last night. The Skyline did pretty well though but those damn Supras and Honda's are just too tough to beat.

The Skyline R32/3/4, Lancer Evo 3/4/5/6, and NSX are the best cars out of Japan, and easily whoop on alot of more exotic cars when modded, but anyone heard of the Diablo VTTT 1100HP of twin turbo power.

I believe the current record holder is Porsche GT2, followed by GT3 and R34 GT-R. All have done it in under 8min (R33 GT-R was the first to achieve that). There still aren't many under the 8min mark if you count out modified cars (including RUF and Gemballa).

Actually the Gemballa holds the record for modified production car so it is not considered a production car. Even thou they are "manufacturers" their cars are not production cars as they started life as another car.
GT2 is still the production car record holder.

Ruf's DO NOT start life as another car. They never have Porsche VIN numbers, but only have RUF numbers from the beginning. Yes they do share the same chasis and perhaps some other parts, so does that mean they start as one in the same??? No it does not. Look at it from another POV. The 350Z, Murano, Altima, Maxima, G35 etc. are all built on the same chasis and share some of the same parts. Does this mean they are all the same car . . .
Ruf are not like other aftermarket tuners such as Haman, Brabus, Carlson, etc. These companies do use stock models as a base and do not hold there own VIN numbers. When you register a Ruf it is registered as a Ruf from the factory and not a Porche. Now whether RUf is considered a non-production car by those who write the records, I do not know. But the Ruf is produced as RUF and not a Porche.

The difference is that the base is built by a different manufacturer (Porsche) where as the Nissans/Infinities are built by Nissan from start to finish.
Maybe to be considered a production car it needs to be homogolated?

I honestly think this is the key. As I said it really depends on what is considered a production car. I do not think Ruf's are considered large production cars (they are limited production cars). In that case, sami is probably right. GT2 may indeed have the record.

nope. sorry.
just like a saleen.. starts as a mustang, but it's a production car.
RUF and gemballa and saleen can all mod cars, but they also produce cars.
the record may not be held by a RUF (production version) porsche, but rather one that they modded...
it's pretty technical and picky, but they're production cars.

I don't think they are considered production cars in the sense we're looking for here. How many are produced? Is it homologated? Those are propably reasons why it is not qualified as a production car.

But I believe that is why they are not qualified as production cars in Nurburgring. I also believe that is why Nissan didn't try to break the record with 400R, it should have been much quicker than the stock R33 GT-R.

Skyline is not a sports car. My '92 is costing me a lot less to insure than my '98 Audi A4 (must be because my Audi is a turbo, LOL). This even when the GT-R is listed as my main vehicle and Audi is my 2nd car.
