postwhoring will never die.....there will always be people that think post count matters more than the content of the posts and so we will always have post whores on message boards.....

That is so true. We had simular issues on the Skylines Downunder forums with a few guys so the post count was removed from the forums. While you can still check it out, no one would know the post counts just by viewing the boards. I calmed quite a few down as there was nothing to really brag about.

I started out that way as when I joined you needed 100 posts to get a personal image up, but quality is better than quantity.

Kicker - its almost the other way around. The people who post the most usually are the ones to become the mods.

Kris won by a landslide, BTW...

I doubt Post count has much if anything to do with it. I for one have a lot less than nearly half the active members who have been a member of AF for over a year.

While activity does play a role. Being keen to help, quality of input, and not being a general PITA also plays a major role in it.

Constant whining, moaning, posting for the sake of it, and general shit stirring only counts against you.

Well, I like to think I always add something constructive and helpful... except in this forum, where I'm not sure if that's possible...

Let's face it, COT is one giant post whoring forum :hehehe:

Take a look again at the top posters all time. Which ones are not mods? Remember - some of us have said "no" when asked if we wanted to be one.

I moderate on another board.....so unless I quit moderating there I don't think I could moderate here.....one moderator position on a very active board gives me enough headaches....
I enjoy coming to AF and just being a regular, active, member.....in the modelling forum I try to help people and be constructive, and here I come to cause a little havoc and relax....

I don't see the point of posting just for the sake of it.....no matter how bored I am.

Nicely summed up,Razor. If postcount size really matters to anybody, then I say go for it,you are only deluding yourself if you believe that anyone else gives a damn about the size of your numbers. But for pity's sake, try to be a bit creative with your posts or people will tire of them very quickly.

Postcount means nothing in terms of credibility....igor,for example, has only 2.45 posts per day in his profile.

I'm not saying that post count matters, but you cant argue with the fact that a large portion of the high post count members are mods.

Seem like a fairly obvious progression to me.........the people that put the hours in at the site are usually chosen first[no good being a mod if you're never here!].If you put in the hours, you put in the posts.Coming into the forum for an hour or so and bombing every thread with a meaningless comment will raise your postcount without helping or entertainig anybody. It doesn't automatically follow that the more you post, the better your chance of becoming a mod.

Sure, being a mod that never comes here any more is probably one of the reasons more mods are being added. I do submit however, that the posting level of members increases after being appointed as a mod. I do not have hard data to back that up. Its just a general feeling I've had reading beaucoup posts on this site over the last couple years.

In any case, I dont have many complaints about the recent list of mod choices. I am also glad I chose to stay out of it. There have been times where the number of mods here are like the proverbial "to many cooks in the kitchen". Occurance of that have been rarer after that whole "God" incident a year or so back.

Ahh... Mr Yogs, how is it possible that your posts could improve in level after being a mod? Seems to me that we do have folk like yourself who visit here and choose to make posts that are on the whole taken some thought, provided a well-reasoned viewpoint and acknowledged that there are alternative points of view.

At the other end of the scale, we have whiny little voices that fail to provide anything approaching intelligent and sentient thought, exchange logic for abuse and a mono-visual in their opinions. Okay, that is part of life and we will always have that but it doesn't mean I have to like it either

I believe that Yogs was trying to assert that we all turn into postwhores once we become mods.My position remains that there is more to postwhoring than simply having a lot of posts.Postwhores dont generally read much, they tend to just latch onto the last post in every thread they can find and add their #02,resorting to any excuse to get their name on the board as many times as possible in their available posting time.

I'm sure that if I had studied the art of postwhoring more closely,I could have had 20,000 posts in the amount of time that I have spent online.Or maybe I could have got myself banned.Either way,one thing is pretty much certain......igor would never have invited me to be a mod.

Riddle me this, bandwagon jumpers, does the fact that some one has "alot" (I suppose you have arbitraraly picked a number to constitute 'alot') of posts mean that they are a postwhore?

Before you answer lets look at this.

Say a woman has slept with 10 men. Now put aside your own morals and values and lets say that this constitutes "alot" of men. Is this woman permiscuious? No, she is not. Why? Because she is 80.

Now I'm not saying that all the people who have high postcounts are long term members of the board. All I am saying is that just because some one has a high postcount does not mean that a large percentage of their posts are PWage. However I feel that I post a good deal, and what do I have, 2000some? I joined in October 2001. And if you ahem, kicker joined in December 2001, and have 12,000some? Please... The pot calling the kettle what agian?

You cannot judge one by the image they portray on the internet, and as much as you think......you're not preeminent to everyone.

And Gonthrax, yes you're right, 12,000+ posts is a lot for a little over a year, even though it's about 30-35 posts per day. And if you really care, take a look in the honda and model car forums, you'll find 25+ valid useful posts a day by me.
