Ok it is a 91 ford escort lx 1.9lt. It was running just fine was warming it up to leave work headlights on, heat on, radio on, then it just died.
Now the fun part.....headlights will not come on, nor will the heater fan, hazard lights brake lights, and if you turn the key on it will turn over.
Checked.....
Battery - good
Light bulbs - good
Alternator - good
12volts in fuse box - key off
9volts in fuse box - key on
4volts in fuse box - key on light switch on
7-8volts just hazzard lights on
Unplugged all - Elecronics control module, computer, multifunction switch, ignition key switch, ECM power relay.
If I try and hit the brakes for the tail lights to come on I hear relay chatter.
Ford dealer don't know they are confused!
Where could I be losing my power???

Well did find that it is not the ignition mod either. I'm not sure what all this stuff about passive resistors is though? Oh well shop time!

I had a simliar problem... My dad touched the alternator on the "test here" sticker that was on it with a clothes-hanger and it messed my car up.. the electral wires or whatever going to my gas tank were messed up.. i dunno much about cars..but the gas wouldnt turn on when i tried starting the car. anyways..we did everything. got new alternator, re-did the wires going to the gas tank. come to find out..THE PROBLEM WAS THE "COMPUTER"... ON MY CAR ITS ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE UNDER THE DASH OR SEAT..CANT REMEMBER. BUT TRY THAT. THERE'S ALSO A COMPUTER UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT...TRY THAT.
lemme know if that works. (u can goto a junk yard and get another computer usually...)

Well, one really rare problem it could be is a problem with the ignition switch physically. If you've ever noticed, when your radio, heater, etc is on before you start the car, and you turn the key, it kills those, and not because of strain on battery. The switch positions are -ACC OFF RUN START- The electronics only get power in ACC and RUN. It's possible for the switch to fail to return to "Run" after the car is started. Usually you'll continue to here the starter turn, BUT NOT ALWAYS. Check if you get radio and stuff in the ACC position. If you do, it's a phyisical problem, and the whole switch needs to be replaced.
And "That Playa TL" your dad shorted the hot wire for the alt to the ground and toasted the computer.
And if you end up getting a computer from a junkyard, REMEMBER to put your chip in it, you cant use the one out of the donar car.
