I want to get a short shifter - looking at DC Sports or Neuspeed - which are straight, or Skunk2, which is dual bend and looks like it might be more fun...
Any opinions on any of these?

Well i had a ebay generic short shifter that cost me $30 bucks, and i was suprised by how nice it was. I've been told they snap on you, but i didnt have any problems with it. However, i decided to get a skunk2 short shifter for my new crx, which is like $150 with knob, my reasoning, i like skunk2. Bascially ur just payin for a name, but i like the name, id say just spend $50 and get DC Sports tho, unless u wanna be like the B-Man (thats me, in cause u didnt know).

I have a Hurst. Theres nothing like going to a classic car show and seeing a Shelby Cobra with the same shifter as your Civic...

I just bought a B&M short shifter with new bushings and a new knob. Well, actually I got them for christmas but i havent put it all on yet. I cant wait to at all though. Its just too cold to get outside and under the car. I tried to one day and my head was sitting in a puddle. It was a pain in the ass and lost feeling in my hands and legs. Got half way through and put it all back together. I wish i could just do it from the inside of my car. :D

doesnt matter what company short shifter. its whether its aluminum or steel. you want a steel short shifter cause aluminum ones tend to break

i have a hurst as well, it has a really short throw, BUT it feels like truck shifter, it is soooo damn tall

Tall shifter is better because you have more leverage so it's easy to shift faster.

what shifter is the best then? it seems a lot are saying B&M and skunk2, What shifter had the shortest throw?

the shifter with the shortest throw is the shifter you make. if you are a decent welder, just take your factory shifter and cut it below the pivot point and weld a socket in between the two pieces. my buddy did that with his del sol and you barely have to flick your wrist and it goes into the next gear. I admit its kind of ghetto, but it does work and is a shorter throw than anything you can buy :D

Well I would say B&M on short shifters, I work at advanced auto parts, and 4 of my friends have them on hondas and other cars and they are sweet. they run 112$ for a B&M with 46% less shift and a 56% less shift for 175$ for 4 gen hondas. I can get they for 90$ for the first one and a 142$ for the second one. I get mine in 2 weeks.

I've got the DC sports short shifter, and I love it... it's not straight, it has a single bend, but it feels good, and you don't have to stretch to reach it. You'd probably be fine with a cheap one or whatever, but I would still recommend the DC Sports one...

I have a 91 CIVIC Si and a 92 CIVIC Si, both with NEUSPEED short shifters. I had no-name brand short shifters in them and chenged to the NEUSPEED. You can really feel the difference. You make your own decision, but I highly recommend the NEUSPEED.

Once I actually get money I'm going with Neuspeed. Haven't really heard from anyone with experience with them, but I have heard they are a lot shorter than a lot of short shifters. I found a place to get them for $109, so I'm gonna jump on that once I have some money.

Hey..since someone posted a new Q about short shifters (thanks Jeef for finding this) anbd I missed this thread last week, I thought I'd throw in my $0.02
I had a cheapie OBX aluminum shifter and it broke off in my hand in traffic one day
So - I got the B&M Edge shifter thru groupbuycenter.com for about $50 I think.. The throw on this shifter is not as short as the OBX was, however, the B&M is steel...a personal requirement now that my old shift knob is sitting on my desk at work with a piece of broken aluminum shifter in it.
The OBX was "bolt-in", meaning it had everything I needed. The B&M required me to remove the bearings from my OEM shifter (fortunately I hadn't discarded it  ) and provided new rubber o-rings/bushings to go with the OEM bearing to replace the wore out OEM parts. The B&M shifter is straight, so for my personal preference it is too far away from me and I gotta reach for it, and also is NOT in the center of the shifter hole, unlike the OEM and OBX shifters. If I decide I think it can handle it, I might heat up the B&M with a torch and bend it when I do the ZC swap.. If it breaks, I'll get a Neuspeed.
I also got Neuspeed Urethane bushings for the shifter support rod, and those are worth every penny. As any of the chassis guys will remind you, use grease when installing these urethane parts to keep them from squeaking

I got a ghetto short shifter, I just hacked a couple inches off the stock shifter. I got a shorter throw, and it was free so I'm happy with it.:D

i got mine through GRP(Ghetto Racing Products). All i diid was cut off the top and cut off the shifter towards the bottom and weld the shifter back togther. It shortned about five inches and most people think its funny how short the throw is.

I have no clue what shifter i have but i dont think its OEM. its a shorter rod with a single bend but it feels amazing! it hasnt been ghetto rigged tho (the only thing on my car thats not ghetto i think) and it feels like it has a somewhat shorter throw. its made of steel too so i cant snap it thankfully! how, (if possible) can i tell what make it is?
this is an older pic from when i first got the car so easy on the comments on how ugly everything looks:silly2: but you can see how short the shifter is there, but like i said up there, i dont think its OEM

Hey, thought I'd throw out my opinoin now too since I've dealt with ebay generic and just tonight installed a Skunk2 Short Shifter/Knob in my new CRX. Let me tell you, the difference is amazing, the Skunk2 is soo short, like a 1/4 inch, plus since the knob is heavy, the gears kinda fall into place. I'm havin trouble adjusting, but i've only driven with it for like 15 min total so far, so I'll get it. So basically wat I'm saying is that ur gonna get wat you pay for, the ebay generic was okay, but skunk2 is like a god.

Yep, i couldnt agree with you more :D Skunk2 is like a god!! Its nice and short! But know this, if you sit ghetto style, get the dual bend short shifter because it sits a little farther back! :D

Yeh i have dc sports also and i like it. From what i've been told that those short shifters ruin ur tranny? They said to go with stock gsr shifter? My friend has a gsr and he put a dc sports on it and no difference so maybe its true? Who knows. Oh and cutting the shifter doesn't make any difference. ITs where the ball is located. not the stick.
