Power window problem

I have a '97 se, I'm having an electrical problem. The power windows have stopped functioning. The master switch will not lock the doors or open the windows. The remote does not lock the driver's door or arm the security system. None of the other window switches work, but still light up like normal. I checked the fusible link and it is fine. When I remove it and put it back in, the entire window system will work perfectly for a very short time, then conk out again.
I searched Maxima.org and ran across the exact smae problem, but no follow-ups were posted and the fix-it was never explained. I was wondering if anyone here had this problem and if was an easy fix
Thanks
greg

i cant think of anything off hand except for a possible safety in the motor itself. maximas are notorious for haveing problems with windows and locks. its possible that the motor is going and cutting off... somthing... like i said its only a theory, a guess at best. my best advice would be to take it to nissan

Could it be a problem with the switch itself? Do the other window switches still work if the master switch is busted or disconnected in some way? My driver side courtesy light is not getting power if that helps any.

have you had any electrical mods lately (ie a new radio/system, new lights)? its possible that there might be electrical feedback from another location if they messed up the wiring.

There's a circuit breaker that will interupt the power to the windows if an overload is detected. It's supposed to reset by itself. Yours may be stuck open.
Sorry, I don't know exactly where that piece is. Perhaps a Nissan tech can help you out.

un4:
I recently put in some indiglo gauges, but they work fine and haven't caused any problems since I put them in over a month ago. They are wired into the light dimmer switch. Put sylvania cool blues HL and optilux FL, poolarg courtesy lights and sidemarkers. Would that stuff have anything to do with it?
NJMAX:
Thanks for the info. I got a new fusible link today, just to make sure it's not something as simple as that. Haven't gotten a chance to try it yet. I will check a Haynes manual when I can.
Had a question, will the other window switches work if the master switch is disconnected?

I didn't want to admit it but my driver side window does the same thing and when the car is off for a while, it some how gains a little power and will go halfway up, but not all the way. Is it possible that it's the motor? I would push the button and I here the moter trying to work to make the window go up, but the window would not budge and I have to pull it up manually while pushing the button... Help please

I saw something like that when I did my search on .org, think it turned out to be a regulator. I saw a few on ebay a couple days ago.

Sorry it took so long, maybe this'll help? It's for 3rd gen. but sounds like the same deal.
