How many people here actually build models?!

And if so do you actually enjoy building them?! If you've read some of the posts here, you'd see my point;)

I build models and reasonably enjoy the process. Some parts are more boring/tedious than others (masking, bare metal foil), but offset by stuff I like (bodywork, paint). Modeling can be a joy, it can also be a pain in the butt. I like seeing the finished project, but always am ready to rip into the next one. Glutton for punishment? Who knows...

I ignore the drama queen armchair critics as much as possible. If they want my respect, show me an accomplishment worth earning it. That might even boost their tremendously low self-esteem. Then again, I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah I build models, I wouldn't be on this forum if I didn't......and I enjoy building them, every kit I buy is because it is a car I want to see finished on my shelf.....this results in major stress when choosing the next kit to build as I want to build them all!!!

Armchair critics? My armchair is used for storage.....lol.....the couch on the other hand......

I agree with you though Antonio, there are a lot of people on here that seem more talk than build....I guess I can be included in that too at times.....

Yes, I build models. It would be rather pointless being on this Forum if I didn't.

I can honestly say I enjoy it, as I find it a nice calming escape from the pressures of normal everyday life...plus I can own cars I can never ever afford in this life anyway. OK, so they're 24 times smaller, but I still got one!

I agree that a stubborn decal can cause extra stress, but if you get it right, the satisfaction is priceless. :smoker2:

 Watcha' workin' on Jay?

As for the subject of the post, I do build models and usually get some satisfaction from the finished product. Although I do tend to ruin it for myself by agonising over every flaw :(

I've built 7 kits now since I took the hobby up again, but only 2 since discovering AF. Thanks to the FAQ and the advice from the forum these last 2 are much better than my previous work :D

Thanks for the heads-up! And get to work on that model!

I love working on them when I don't have a deadline! That was one of the problems with the Mustang I had, I had to finish it in 2 weeks and it kinda took the fun out of it. I wasn't really rushing on it but my mind was setup to "just finish it" and not have fun building it. This is also the first kit I have seriously worked on too. I had an Integra but that was before I was really looking on here, but once I'm done with the stang I will finish up with that integra.

Oh yeah, once I had realized I wouldn't make the deadline due to fitment and paint issues I just said I would give it to my friend later and work on it when I can....well when I started doing that I started fixing old problems that I had and it was a lot more fun :). Once I get back home(I'm at college right now) I'm going to finish it up!!

[Didn't want to bring it up to college since some pieces had broke and were missing when I brought it back home :(]

I build models, but I haven't shown much evidence of it lately (or ever for that matter). I like to go at my own pace with models (Ray, keep to comments to yourself :finger: ).

So, yes, I do.

Thanks guys! I was just curious. I was starting to lose my focus on the hobby for a minute. I think I'm going through a case of "builder's block" I guess :bloated: I might just need a break; I never mean to offend just a little frustrated with some of the negativeness than go on. Jay, Ray, and Bob: you guys are supports for the forum as far as I'm concerned ;) I just want people to enjoy the hobby; there are far worse things to get hostile over! :) I still think I need a break! :bloated:

Very interesting question.
I think there are alot here that dont really post to many models as i've noticed alot a young and starting off in the hobby, so therefore they ask alot of questions first.
Another point i think off is....are people worried about what others will think?
There are alot of really top class builders here, and mayby a newbie just starting off thinks he's going to be judged against the best here......i hope this is not the case as we all started of not knowing much.
Hell, when i first started there was nothing like AF to help me out and ask questions....i learnt by my mistakes
My rule of modelling is...It's better to ask a dumb question then to make a dumb mistake

PMan will now shut up :bloated:

I dont judge people by what they build or how well they build, i look at Pmans models and think, how in the hell does he build those?
same for Jay and other people, im jealous that i cant build that good so i go around making fun of people(maybe thats why i go to that doctor every wednesday)

i guess i make too many dumb mistakes!

i do actually build models! i know some of you probably started to doubt that since i've never actually posted a completed model in the 5 months that i've been a member on this forum, but i do actually build them!! i've got 3 that are painted and waiting for final assembly, 5 that are in boxes waiting to be assembled, and 1 (the first one i ever built) is "completed", but i did a REALLY bad job on it since it was my first, so it'll be re-done sometime when i feel like getting around to it. and hey, it's the weekend! you know what that means...

MODELLING TIME!!! :D :bonghitte :jumpie: :silly:

I think there's definetely some truth in that but what is also a possibility is that people might not have a digital cam to post their works. I've been into modelling since I was 15. I started out w army vehicles (mainly WW II) and than got into building dioramas with some of the vehicles but since beginning 2002 I switched to car modelling (I was tired of making perfectly looking models and than having to f¨*% up my work w bullet holes and weathering :D ).
It's actually fun to make a model as shiny as possible as opposed to a battle-hardened tank (a shiny tank is like tits on a bull a hobby friend of mine always says
Good thing is my b-day is coming up in march and I might consider buying me a digicam, another possibility is to drink whiskey less in the weekends but something tells me that second possibility won't make it :evillaugh

Yeah I build models, I don't think anyone on this forum doesn't.

Right now I'm working on an ITR which is taking me forever.Re puttying and sanding, it's a pain in the butt!

But after the Itr it'll be much easier.

I build models... I am just really slow and take my time at it. I take about 6months to a year to build one... but they usually turn out good, but i dont have a digi cam and my scanner is busted so i have never posted pics but will hopefully be able to sometime soon!

Modeling is fun though whenever i get off my lazy ass and do it:D

I've built for about 30 years and actually find myself enjoying the build more than the filled display cabinet. It must be a Zen thing, but I give away most completed models as they have little use to me after completion. This is why I don't have a bunch in the gallery...
As for enjoyment, I must be in the right frame of mind to do one. When it's on, I'm a building machine. If it's not on, I don't try to force the matter as that is when I'll screw it up! My building these days seems to revolve around pushing the detail envelope to the extreme, finding out how far I can take things. At some point I'll hit a wall with detail and probably pump out a ton of box-stock models, who knows?! But I see it as a life-long hobby that I've always enjoyed...

heh heh:D i actually do build my models but i usually give them away once i'm done. i've only finished one car model with bittersweet success. i've been working on my latest project for five months and started another one without finishing the other! as for enjoying them... i find them more frustrating than anything when building to your own expectations. (my current clk gtr has seen its paint stripped 5 times and re-puttied each time!) what makes me go on is pushing myself not to let this chunk of plastic beat me... everyone on this board inspires me to go on and finish!

I build, have 5 done , working on 2 and 20 or so in boxes but i dont have a digital cam, but hope to have one soon. I enjoy the hobby greatly to the point of being addicted, but i must learn more self control and not to stress to much when something goes wrong, other than that its great fun.
