Porsche 911 Vs Subaru WRX StiR

OK, so this has NOTHING to do with models / modelling........

(Jay, P-Man please don't move this thread)

I would like to get the opinion of the people on this forum, because I post here rather regularly and would prefer to hear what the modellers think!

I start a new job here in Switzerland on the 3rd of February and I need a new car, I get a staff discount on Toyota (20%) MG (9%) Subaru (12%) as well as KEA, Chrysler and Range rover

I have been looking at a 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 with 98,000 km, this would cost about the same as what I would pay for a WRX StiR (they have a specially prepared car in the show room)

So am I better off buying a new Subaru or a 13 year old Porsche?

Porsche Sfr. 34,000.00 13 years old 98,000 km 230 bhp (aprox.)

WRX Sfr. 29,440.00 2002 model 200 km 218 bhp

WRX StiR Sfr. 43,000.00 2002 model 0 km 265 bhp

Or does anyone have another suggestion??

I always thought it would be easy to choose a car, but now that I'm going to part with hard cash................

Hmm, tricky.

Sensible head :) says - go with the new Subaru. It's a new car with a good warranty, and Subaru's have a good rep for reliability.

Driver's head  says - go with your heart and buy the Porsche. It's a Porsche you fool, and comes as standard with rear wheel drive tail-sliding action, a sweet sounding 6-cylinder engine, heritage, and it's more classy than the Subaru.

Whichever one you choose you'll end up with a cracking good car, you lucky, lucky man!

Tough choice, because both are available in 1/24 scale.
I think Tamiya's WRX has better quality than Fujimi's 911, so pick Subaru. :)
Honestly, it depends on your wallet. If you can afford the maintenance and insurance, Porsche is definitely better. It's a sports car, not a performance sedan, and you don't by a Porsche only because of its performance stats.
Whether new or used, never buy a car without test driving it, and pick the car you enjoy driving.

Hard decision....the old 911's can be very tough and durable, they're a blast to drive...but they're frightfully expensive to insure and maintain, and if you have problems...

WRX is new, reliable, faster...but let's face it, it's a box.

I love sports cars, but for a daily driver I'd take the Scooby and save up for a fun/sports car for the weekend...doesn't have to be that huge an investment anyway. As for advice...get either car. Just don't get an SUV!

If you get staff discounts on Range Rovers, then for god's sake get one! You can prolly buy the Porsche AND WRX for the price of one Range Rover! Besides, cars only get cheaper by year, so later on once u're fed up with ur Range Rover u can sell it and get your Porsche and WRX... agree? :D

But if those are the only two choices, then I'd go with the WRX... the Porsche is fast but it's also a bare-minimum car, and prolly won't suffice as a daily driver... the WRX is better in this respect

I'd rather have a brand new WRX STi R, all things considered...

If you can stand to le your head rule your heart, that is...

Used to drive a Prodrive modified 2000 model year Impreza which I loved a lot. Very quick, very capable and with a Blitz induction and exhaust kit sounded a lot like a Huey helicopter (at full throttle you could hear it a mile away). But... it was a bit too good, soulless and easy to drive VERY FAST. Swapped it for my Lotus, which is completely the reverse, hell the passenger seat doesn't even move.

I'd do the Porsche thing. Everyone should own one at some point if they like cars. But I'd find a nice 993 model 2 wheel drive Carrera.

Just MHO:D

I would go for the new subaru...Should be faster than the Porsche and would be really really fun to mod it! Plus i'm sure it will be a lot more eyecatching:eek: on the streets than the porsche!
