I got a friend that calls the Porsche a glorified volkswagon:) I think most porsches suck except for the 930 slant nose, 88-92 911s, 928 GTS and the 911 GT2.

WOOHOO! Another Porsche non-enthusiast! I don't really care for them either. I like the new 911's (996) and all of their variants, and I like Boxsters, but I just think most other models are kind of...well...hideous.

IMO most people should read more about Porsches history then maybe we can talk about the VW - Porsche relation again. For those who don't like the look, well I can't change it, it's a matter of taste.

Exactly, some people don't like the 356, take me for example I might have liked in in the 50's but now it's jsut plain ugly. The only Porsches I don't like are 914's and Some early 70's 911's. I like most Porsches though and there a leader in engineering right now. I obviously like the new models like the 996 and the new GT2 :) but not everbody likes them .

Well I love them all of them even the 356. Porsche is one of the best sports cars in the world. You people need to read your history about VW and Porsche. Oh yea you also need to drive some Porsches around to like them even more. What about those Ferraris now? I think they look ugly to me. Hmmm Fait and Ferrari I think they look alike too. :)

BTW Seb, what kind of car do you have? I know this may be a stupid question but I know I don't have a Porsche so it seems half logical. I think that Ferrari right now is still excellent almost to well designed, no detail overlooked. The 360 Modena spent 2200 hours in the wind tunel for optimum drag coefficiency! Porsche is the best sports car maker in the world, there orignal (for most part) and sexy. Porsche is only one of two company's to use the Flat engine design and they came up with the retractable wing which is just cool. The 928 series also had really interesting headlight mechanisms. It just little details that make both companies good.

I drive a 1986 Porsche 951. It nothing compare to the great ferraris back in that day. It still faster then Mustangs and other cars. Oh yea I guess this car really sucks since its a Porsche. One more thing go see how the car takes turns. :)

Oh, dear....this is sacriligeous and I don't know why I'm saying it...Maybe it's in defense of Porsche...but...

If a Porsche is a glorified Volkswagen, then a Ferrari could be considered a glorified FIAT! NOOOOOO!!!!!

You see, it's not that way. Even if Porsche uses stuff from the VW parts bin, they are still able to make great cars....nothing compared to Ferrari's, IMO, but still nice.

I don't think I would ever buy a porsche--I personally find most porsche's kind of plain and ugly, but that's my opinion. If styling is good for some people, they definitely have the performance to sell. I would rather have a 360 modena than a 996 turbo. There's just a sense of perfect-ness that I see in the many Ferrari's that I don't in most Porsche's.

OH, and I would take a 512TR over basically any porsche. :D

I like the 512 bbi better, it has the internally mounted headlights showing through the hood. I thought this was about Porsches. The ultimate Porsche for me is the 1997 Porsche 993 (911) Twin Turbo S. Too bad they don't make a 2001 Turbo S :(

They are going to make a Turbo S for the 996. Do not know when but it should be out in the next 2 to 3 years.

I would say the new GT2 is pretty much an equivalent to the turbo s. 465 hp, rear wheel drive, and lighter.
WOOO HOOO give me one!!

Currently, I'm alter images of the GT2 as my background. Right now I have a shot of it racing along a track somewhere in Germany. Do you guys think they'll use the new bodystyle in an updated GT3 in a few years?

I think Porsche makes great cars. The only reason there styling is out there is because they focus on other things first. If it works and helps preformance it's in, if it looks good too, that's a bonus. :)

I quite surprised that the F1 has been their as long as it has. There was this thing on the news today about some guy who was driving his Porsche 996 on a Road near Montreal, Quebec, Canada doign over 250 km/h and he veered off the road and the car rolled three times, totalling it and he kill his two passengers and himself.

Oh the good life to die in a 996 hmm 250km/h = to around 155 or so. Well that is how i'm dying in a Porsche ;) RIP porsche ex-driver.

My friends father totaled his his 928 GTS at 180 km/h but survived with no fractures. He and his wife were sitting in the foot room while the crash barrier was over theire Head. I saw some pictures of it, He was pretty pretty lucky:bandit:

It's a real treat to own a supercar, but it is soooooo tempting to push it to the redline. I know, I have behaved in mine most of the year, but twice I just had to be moving over 100 MPH to enjoy the way the car was meant to be driven. The last time I did it was in August and 140+ MPH on some Iowa blacktop. Almost cost me a $340 ticket (US), but I got out of it in court. I'll wait and go to the track next time....

Porsches are not glorified vw's... VWs suck... porsches have a 50+ year history including domination at Le Mans... Think before you write stuff that makes no sence or is not based on fact... how do you figure that my 930 which costed 78 grand in 1989 is a glorified vw... vws never even costed a quarter of that... i gaurantee that no vw in the eighties even went over 130... Glorified vw? Too bad porsche is a totally separate company from vw (today) and porsche actually created vw... Therefore, how can a porsche possibly be a glorified vw or a ripoff of vw???? Here are some facts:

1875 - September 3rd, Ferdinand Porsche was born.
1931 - Porsche drew first sketches of the "Beetle."
1934 - Porsche develops the "Beetle" or "KdFWagen"

Bet you didnt know that...

I dont care if you think porsches are ugly... its mostly jealousy on your part anyways... Until your driving a porsche dont judge them...

It's too bad that the Porsche that designed the VW was a person and not the company Afterall the person who designed the VW didn't even start the company bearing his last name, and he designed the VW years before his son would start the company bearing his last name (and might I point out that the first cars they did make were heavily based not only on ideas from the VW design, but actual mechanical components as well? - a "glorified VW")
While it's not at all fair to say that ALL Porsches are "glorified VWs" you can say that alot of them are, the rear engine layout idea of course was developed from the VW - and then there were the 914 and the 924 which were developed with help from VW...

Well, that is pretty much what the Cayenne is now.
The Cayenne starts its "life" in Slovakia, build alongside with the Volkswagen Touareg, the body and chassis are done before being sent to Germany.
Porsche then takes over and put in the drivetrain and etc. enough to make it a "Made in Germany" vehicle.
The V6 engine in the Cayenne also came from Volkswagen.
This is just what Porsche needs to do in order to survive, as Porsche wants to be an independent company.
There is no way a sports car company can survive just by selling sports car without having a huge company backing them up.

i cant stand people like mike1125. do more research before u say somin. ferdinand porsche helped his dad engineer vw cars. after ferdinand grew up, he left and created his own company, which is porsche. so porsche did come after vw.
