I wonder who woke up one day, and said...I AM GONNA SELL THE MOON! Who actually owns it in the first place?

Anyone remember that Futurama episode where they take a delivery to the moon & there's an entire theme park there? Just watched that the other night on CN. I love that show! :D

Oops, Meant to say "I'm NOT entirly sure you can just buy a piece of the Moon..."
Exactly who owns it? Who said... Ok as of today I own the moon... and I'm going to start selling the property.
Who are you paying money to, to get your certificate printed at Kinko's that says you Own 2.75 Acres of Land on the Darkside of the moon.
I think this falls under the same category as dumb ideas like the Pet Rock.

Well according to the events that occurred during the moon landings and international law regarding colonisation... since no-one who has actually visited said property and made an actual claim ie "I claim this land for the United States of America" then at the moment it remains "Terra Nullius" terra nullius - literally a 'land belonging to nobody'. (Oz - don't even start with Australia and THAT claim - that's a topic for another time and place)
If someone were to visit the moon and claim sovereignty and possession over the moon and begin colonisation - then the moon would cease to be 'Terra Nullius.'
By claiming the land and colonising the moon, the laws of the sovereignty claimant and colonists would become the law of the moon. Jurisdictional rights would then be in place and essentially the laws observed and set by the claimant under whatever type of government installed would be paramount.
Whether or not, Earth-based governments would recognise the government (and therefore the jurisdiction over laws etc) is fairly moot. There would certainly be potential legal questions regarding airspace and the applicability of a 200 mile economic zone under international law.

Well if you ask me there is going to be a big race to claim it- and when Jimmay claims it he'll split it on AF (*discalimer* Jimmy actually meant split a small part of the moon amongst AF- He will not be held responsible for money wasted shifting oversized furniture to the moon *disclaimer*
