Hi dudes!
Bot a second hand M5 (99 with 90.000km on the clock) two months ago and i'm most pleased with it. Also had an '94 E36 M3 (286hp), but i find the M5 much much better... torque, torque, torque...!!!
The only thing bothering me is the way it sounds when the engine is cold... not only it idles above 1.000revs (with a much louder noise!) but it also vibrates a bit... the whole car i mean! When it reaches normal working temp it feels and sounds like a totaly different car.
Some guy told me that it could b a Vanos problem!
Any clues?
Help!

Have no clue... he might be right though. I sure would have it looked at by someone who knows about them cars.

Take the car to your local BMW dealer, they've got all the service information needed to sort it out, it does sound like a vanos fault from your description though

Got the 'problem' sorted out!
The left bank Vanos's chain was a bit loose... and that was causing the noise... B'mer guys tightened it and now it sounds 'normal' and i also feel the engine a lot smoother... the strenght though, remains the same... like, LOTS OF IT!!!
p.s. i raced a friend of mine, to whom i sold my previous '94 M3, on the highway... man... its such a huge diference!! when i owned the M3 i felt it as the strongest car on the road... now, i realize that this M5 is something totally out of this world!!
...i'm afraid i'll never sell it... unless if its 4 another M5...
