But to this observer, the current system of litigation and outrageous awards made by jurors in the US reviles me. The concept that no matter how stupid you have been, the complete lack of regard for your own self-preservation and that someone else (preferably someone else with deep pockets) is responsible rather than yourself doesn't fit with the principle of personal responsibility.
The mercenary nature of contingency attorneys, class actions and damage awards that bear absolutely no relationship to the magnitude of loss suffered will continue so long as the attorneys breathe.
I don't hate lawyers. Lawyers serve a purpose much like scum sucking lamprey.
Reminds me of a case which was filed by a lady seeking damages after using contraceptive jelly by putting it on her toast. Her comment was "Who reads the label?"
On the other hand I agree with her intention, folk that stupid really shouldn't add to the genepool.
