Here's a wallpaper I made up:

Whoever owns that mansion is loaded... as if the McLaren F1 and the palace behind it doesn't say enough I know that's a Ferrari 360 Modena in the garage and some kind of a Porsche, perhaps a GT2?

It'd be JUST a Turbo, where did you get the other pics of the Mclaren? I've only ever seen it from the top left pic.

I got the pics off of some McLaren gallery page on the net a long time ago. I did a search on the net and couldn't find it.

Should be a Murcielago instead of that Porche. Then it would be my dream garage. :p

I agree 100%!!! I'd also go for a 6.0 VT too instead of the Porsche.

All I have to say is that this guy is making a whole lot of money and he needs to share some of it with us! I wonder what's parked behind the 2 garage doors on the other side of the house? I bet that Porsche is his daily driver. But yea a Lambo needs to be in the garage also.

Ok, Porsche, if it was a Carerra GT, I would take it over that Ferrari. But I would take a Murcielago over any of those cars, even the F1. :D

Wow, that takes some true loyalty, even over an F1. I bet there's some nifty cars behind doors 1 and 2.

Looking at that pic, I must say that the Modena has the nicest looking back end of almost any sports car. The rear end is the part of most cars that look the worse. Even though I love Diablos, I do not particularly like their back end without a spoiler on it.

Agreed, I love Diablos with matching coloured wings, they just look so agressive and fast. Personally a White on Bordeaux 2001 6.0 VT, (like the last one made) but with a white wing.

It'll get you blood racing like Schumacher.

(I am aware of the irony in making a Ferrari reference in a Mclaren forum about a Lamborghini)

Looking at all these pics make me realize that someday I must own a car with wing doors. They are the coolest part of every supercar. I don't care if I end up owning a '91 Buick Skylark, I am putting wing doors on it. (Ok, maybe I won't go that far, but if I own a nice car, it is getting wing doors installed.)

Don't ask me my motive behind that post...

I agree. You just can't beat the impression that a sports car with 'irregular' doors has. I still like the Lamborghini doors the best. I'm not sure what those type of doors are called.

Jack-knife doors!

I think the proper name is gull-wing doors. All old Mercedes models had Gull-Wing in their name, and they were one of the first ones to use those doors. I just call them wing doors. They are a truly beautiful touch to all exotic cars.

I didn't mean ALL old Mercedes models, I meant all the models that they made with those doors in the 60's. Sorry about that.

The Lamborghini doors are scissor doors, the 300SL had gullwing doors and I'm not sure what the Mclaren/Enzo doors are called.

Not gull-wing. Gull-wing doors are like the Delorean.

Oooh. Gull-wing are attached at the top. But what is the difference between Enzo/Mclaren doors and Lambo doors. They are both attaced under the side mirror aren't they??? How about the Koensigg doors (look in Car Comparisons under this guy's exotic car site - go to his site and look at the Koensigg pics).

Doucette,

My compliments on the McLaren Wallpaper as well as the others that you have collected on your website. A Photoshop user, I would assume. Very nice.

As for the McLaren, the car is currently in the San Fransisco area, the owner is quite wealthy as you would imagine. This car was previously in New Zealand. I negotiated with the owner then for several months for a client, but my client opted for a different car. At the time the car had 24,000km. As you will note on the lower aft panel, it is none other than XP-4, the Fourth prototype that underwent quite extensive testing, successful testing I might add, as some were crashed in testing or were sacrificed for the MIRA impact crash test.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite colors on the McLaren. My number one choice for color would be metallic burgundy. Of course any color on the McLaren is still beautiful, but in terms of what I would choose for a personal car when given the chance to own one of my own in the years to come.

Thanks XOTech, and thanks for all the info! That is a beautiful car!

Oh, and yes I created it in Photoshop.

Did they made a McLaren with this color ? Have you pictures ?

jkbon,

Technically, there was only one production car painted the Dark Burgundy Metallic. However, the original concept car as seen in silver on the cover of the book and is in almost all of the published literature from McLaren on the car, although it had no motor or transmission, it was repainted Metallic Burgundy for further publicity campaigning. I understand it was later repainted back to the traditional silver.

I am uncertain if any other cars have since been painted the burgundy color or not. I know of several cars that have a custom orange tinge and a couple that have an alteration of red/burgundy, but do not have pictures of those.

Here is a shot of the originally produced Metallic Burgundy car and then the repainted concept car.

I have mixed up the files when posting, so the picture above is actually the repainted concept car and the following image is the originally produced car.

I definetly think that the Ferrari 360 Modena is the most beautiful car I have ever seen. I don't know why. It's just awesome.

And the cheapest Ferrari out. No wonder they are so popular.

The McLaren F1 and Ferrari Enzo's door design is referred to as a dihedral door. Dihedral is a mathematical term relating to the angle of the relationship of two planes ...not the kind that fly. ;)

I believe the first production car to employ the design was the Asian market Toyota Sera from 1990, but apparently Gordon Murray had previously seen the design used on an American show car. The McLaren F1's seating design required a long leg swing to aid in entry and exit thus requiring a long door design. Had they used conventionally hinged doors, they would have required over one meter of swing space to each side when parking. They chose not to copy the scissor-style door found on the Countach/Diablo and felt that true gullwing doors offered limited escape opportunity in a roll over accident. Upon learning of the Sera, McLaren Cars got a hold of one to inspect it. They verified that the doors didn't demand much space on each side and ultimately when the lower sill was included in the door design it allowed for easier entry to that center drive seat.

A very similar door design was also used recently on the Lotus M250 concept, though the doors of that car had no attachment point at the roof.

= = = = =

XOTech - Here's a shot of the F1 in your color. I have another photo of this car taken from the side along with a silver F1, but it's quite small unfortunately.

Not to stray too far from the topic, but someone also asked about the door design of the Koenigsegg and I must say they are quite different from almost everything else out there.

Working much more like the scissor door design found on a Lamborghini, the doors of the Koenigsegg CC actually swing out and slightly forward from the body and then rotate upwards. They don't reach nearly as high as most scissor door designs due to their hinge mechanism though. Most scissor doors rotate up from the base of the A-pillar but with the CC, the rotating point is much lower on the body. Also, with most scissor doors the door stays parallel with the side of the body as it raises and lowers and on the CC they end up looking more like side pods.

Here's a decent photo of the Koenigsegg with it's door open for those who aren't familiar.
