I've given blood. I can't give blood as often as I'd like, though. All the traveling I do prevents it. I do it for free, no money. It doesn't take much energy out of me (other people I know just lose ALL of there energy). I filled up the bag in 5 minutes. :)

They dont pay you for blood, they pay you for plasma.

I do it quite often.

Donating plasma is fucking nasty... I'm sorry, but if they take blood out of my body, they're keeping it, not putting it into a machine, spinning it around and giving me back the red blood cells... no way... too much at risk there.

Im the w3aksauce I guess. :( I dont like even getting a needle. They have a ton of tv ads here to get people to donate. They use slogans like:

"Blood, its in you to give"

I say

"Blood, its in you to live"

If I was supposed to drain out some of my blood, I would have a valve affixed to my body. Dont get me wrong, donating blood is a good thing, im just not up for it. They would have to sedate me to get my blood.

Yep. I do it 3-4 times a year. Theres no money in Australia for doing it, but you get a half decent lunch (hot dog, mars bar, juice, water, coke, biscuits & cheese etc) and sometimes things like portable AM/FM radios. But I'd do it if I had to pay for it for the following 2 reasons:
1. Blood supplys run critically low much of the time and I'm helping someone who really needs it
2. Why do you think women live longer? Think about it ;)

And about the energy thing, I feel ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENT when I get up. The nurses try to make me rest but I can jump up with no head-spin. :)

I don't give blood. My excuse is I just don't have time.

so does anyone else ever do this? I donated in college, probably two or three times. I admit that I did it because my girlfriend at the time used to donate. I would definitely do it again, but just.. haven't gotten around to it, I guess.

For the record, AK, I too got a great buzz from doing it the first time :) But, unfortunately, I only got it that first time.

They had a blood drive at my work and I hadn't eaten that morning, so I just watched people. They told me not to donate that time because of the combination of me being EXTREMELY NERVOUS (that I would run out of blood and die, I know it's stupid but I'm a chicken), and me not having eaten, and being fairly light, they figured I'd probably pass out. But I watched for the first time, and it wasn't nearly as sterile as I'd thought. I was also afraid the Red Cross trailer would smell like a hospital, but it didn't. So I felt way better about it and I'm definitely going to eat so I can donate next time.

Remember the 'Mad Cow Disease' scare in Britain a few years ago?I have been giving blood regularly for years, but oneday when I turned up at the hospital for my regular session, they advised me that I was no longer required. Why?because I had been in England around the time, and there is a remote risk that the disease can be passed to humans who consumed beef before the outbreak was detected.So...I am no longer a blood donor[except to the tax department].
