Lightning Motor In a Mustang

I was thinking of dropping a 5.4L motor from a 2001 Lightning in my mustang. It has 380 Hp, and I can get it cheap through a friend. I was trying to find examples of this being done on the internet, but have not found any yet. Any thoughts or advice??

Would make for an interesting car. It should fit in engine bay, since the 5.4 liter fits in the 200 cobra R. But, there would probably be problems lining up the transmission, might have to go with a different type. Probably would also be a problem with electronics, would have to get wire harness and computer out of a lighning as well.
It would probably be cheaper and easier to throw on some heads and a supercharger on your 5.0, it would probably make more then 380 hp for less hassle.

Theres a guy on MustangWorld who did it. Check out how high the motor sits out of the engine bay. E-mail him if you have any questions.Lightning motor in a Fox (http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/News/select1716.htm)

cool, thanks for the link. I would love more if anyone comes across them.

The reason I am pondering this, is because I think that with the lightning motor, it will out run most anything on the street, and run down the track pretty fast, while still being a good everyday driver, even though it would be on the weekend only.

Having a DOHC 5.4L Supercharged motor sticking part-way out of your hood is a sure indication to the guy next to you that you are not to be trifled with. Personally I'd go with a supercharger, heads, and exhaust on your current block for less money (probably less, anyhow) and retain that somewhat more stealthy engine-under-the-hood appearance. :D

If you can get it bolted in and running, I don't see why not though!

all things are currently being considered...and yes it would be cheaper and less time and effort to go with moding out my 302...But that is not really what I want...there are lots of mustangs that are modified...not many are running the 5.4L under their hood...After careful thinking, it is still a planned project...but it is going to have to wait. I need more time to plan it all out, as far as parts needed, and cost. It will be about the same project as dropping a V8 into a 4 cyl car. Which is no small task.

with all this considerations of enegine swaps----have you thought about if you are going to pass emissions?
